Thursday a.m. Rangers stuff

Going for the sweep today...

Drew Davison writes in his game story that, although Matt Harrison didn't get the win last night, his pitching performance was the reason why the Rangers were in position to pick up the 1-0 victory.

Anthony Andro's game story talks about the Rangers' recent string of dominance from their starting pitchers.

The game story from the Rangers' website notes that the Rangers took advantage of their scoring opportunity in the 8th inning last night, while the D-Backs didn't take advantage of their 8th inning opportunity, and that was the difference in the game.

Gerry Fraley has his observations from yesterday's win.

Richard Durrett has his "Rapid Reaction" up.

Randy Galloway has a column praising Nolan Ryan for letting Ron Washington and Mike Maddux make their own decisions. In particular, in this case, it has to do with Robbie Ross:

With pitching injuries mounting, the Rangers' hot topic at the moment centers on Robbie Ross, a rookie left-hander who has approached the sensational level with his bullpen work so far.

In fact, for an organization loaded with young pitching prospects, Ross has been alone both here and in Round Rock as a kid who thus far is meeting and certainly exceeding expectations.

The most logical next step for Ross, with the Rangers needing an arm right now, is a promotion to the rotation, with his major league debut as a starter coming here Saturday night against the Astros.

It won't happen, however. Robbie stays in the bullpen because manager Ron Washington is adamant that Ross is needed there more than the rotation.

Galloway's column talks about the greatness of Ryan, and of Washington and Maddux, and of Ross. We'll see if Galloway is right about Ross not starting on Saturday, guess is still that Ross gets the start...

If you recall, though, back in April of 2010, Galloway blamed Ryan for the Rangers' bad catching situation, because Ryan should have (and didn't) overrule Jon Daniels on bringing Pudge Rodriguez back, when Ryan wanted Pudge back and Daniels didn't. Galloway, apparently, believes that Ryan shouldn't interfere with the decisions of those who work for him...except when he should...

Sullivan's notes hit on Mike Olt's hot streak, Olt being roommates with Chris McGuinness, Barret Loux, and Justin Grimm, Nelson Cruz's illness, and Michael Young being underrated.

The S-T's notes talk about Brandon Snyder starting in right field, Scott Feldman getting comfortable, and the All Star coaching staff.
