Props to Shroom and his magical farmprobs calendar.
Engel Beltre. He is likely having the best month of his career. This on the heels of what was the best month of his career. In July, Beltre could've easily been the Ranger's minor league hitter of the month: .308/.352/.592 with 12 SB. His August line is even more impressive: .341/.429/.512. Yes. He's on pace for a similar OPS month, but it is more impressive because of one development we have all been waiting for:
6:7 BB:K.
If Beltre holds pace, it will likely be one of the most intriguing performances on the Ranger's farm. Alone, it wouldn't herald a return to prospect elite rankings. I would look forward to hearing from scouts and others who watch Frisco regularly whether a mature approach is indeed apparent. Nevertheless, as in the case of Font, it perhaps signals that a young man has grown up. As one who has recently turned 40, I find a coming-of-age development something worthy of celebration.
Other big August performances thus far:
Leonys: .350/.435/.625
Leury: .318/.464/.318 6 SB 6:2 BB:K
Hanser: .357/.372/.548
Cone: .333/.366/.538
Deglan: .333/.375/.700
Ronald: .323/.400/.355
Mazara: .250/.417/.393
Luke: 0.77 ERA 13:6 K:BB 0 HR
Appears that the farm has a lot of tired arms on it.
