Michael Young left yesterday's game to be with his wife for the birth of their son, and as expected, he is now on the paternity list, which allows the Rangers to make a move to replace him on the 25 man roster for the next 72 hours.

To replace Young, the Rangers have purchased the contract of utility infielder Luis Hernandez. Hernandez was in the mix for the utility job this spring, losing out to Alberto Gonzalez.

Gonzalez apparently didn't get called up because he was injured on Thursday.

Hernandez had to be added to the 40 man roster, but because there was a vacant spot on the 40 man roster, no corresponding move was necessary to clear space for him.

The Rangers have been playing with a three man bench for a while, but once Young is ready to return, the Rangers could choose to send one of the extra relievers down to the minors and keep Hernandez. Alternately, they could outright Hernandez, and then purchase his contract again when the rosters expand on September 1.
