The Rangers have reportedly signed lefthanded pitcher Nate Robertson to a minor league deal
Per Jerry Crasnick on Twitter, the Rangers have reportedly signed lefthanded pitcher Nate Robertson to a minor league deal.
Interesting signing for Texas, mainly because, back in the early/mid-aughts, when he was a starting pitcher for the Tigers, Robertson was one of those guys whose name used to be thrown out there as someone the Rangers should go get, because, hey, he's lefthanded, he has okay ERAs (the product of pitching half his games in Detroit), and hey, the Rangers always need pitching, right? I mean, he has to be better than whoever else the Rangers have, doesn't he?
So, it seems kind of fitting he has ended up finally signing with Texas, even if it is just on a minor league deal.
Robertson hasn't pitched in the majors since 2010, when he had 100.1 innings pitching mostly as a starter for the Marlins (while posting a 5.47 ERA), and one inning in two appearances with the Phillies (resulting in a 54.00 ERA).
Robertson had a 7.14 ERA in 2011 pitching for Tacoma, the M's AAA affiliate, and pitched 29 innings in AAA last year, putting up an 8.07 ERA. Robertson also had three outings for Wichita in the Independent American Association.
