Nelson Cruz identified as client of "East Coast Balco"

A Miami New Times story today identifies a number of baseball players, including Ranger outfielder Nelson Cruz, as being connected with Biogenesis, a Miami clinic described as the "East Coast version of Balco"

The Miami New Times has a lengthy story up today which deals with a Miami clinic called Biogenesis, which it describes as the "East Coast version of Balco."

Biogenesis has closed, but an employee provided the New Times with a documentation that links a number of athletes to performancing enhancing drugs through the Biogenesis clinic.

Of primary importance to Rangers fans is that Ranger outfielder Nelson Cruz is among those identified as working with clinic chief Anthony Bosch.

Also among those named in the story are Alex Rodriguez, Gio Gonzalez, Bartolo Colon, Melky Cabrera, and Yasmani Grandl.

ARod being ARod, his inclusion in the list is going to be the primary focus of the national media. However, various national writers on Twitter are saying that MLB is investigating all those who are on the list, and that MLB could hand down suspensions for those involved.

It seems, to me, to be unlikely that a player is going to get a 50 game suspension in the absence of testing positive for a PED. However, should Cruz end up getting dinged for 50 games because of this situation, it is going to make the Rangers' already problematic outfield situation even worse.
