Los Angeles Dodgers sign Alex Guerrero

Per Jon Heyman, the Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly signed Cuban defector Alex Guerrero

Jon Heyman tweets that the Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to a 4 year, $28 million contract with infielder Alex Guerrero.

Guerrero, who turns 27 in December, played shortstop primarily in Cuba, but is expected to end up at second base in the major leagues.

Guerrero and the Dodgers had supposedly agreed to a five year, $32M deal in July, but that deal ended up not happening.

While the Rangers were reportedly interested in Guerrero, the likelihood of them signing him always seemed remote, given the glut of players they have in the middle infield.  To the extent that this impacts the Rangers, it is because it makes the Dodgers less likely to trade for second baseman Ian Kinsler, a possibility that had been bandied about quite a bit this offseason.

It would also seem to make the Dodgers non-factors in the upcoming Robinson Cano free agent sweepstakes, making it that much more likely he stays in New York.
