The latest iteration of the CAIRO projections were released yesterday, and the Texas Rangers continue to be projected to be one of the stronger teams in the American League.
CAIRO projects the Rangers to end up with 89 wins in 2013, the third highest total in the A.L. trailing only the Angels (who are projected at 91 wins) and the Blue Jays (projected at 90 wins). Only two N.L. teams -- the Nationals (91) and the Reds (90) are projected to win more games than the Rangers, although CAIRO does have the Dodgers at 89 wins as well.
CAIRO gives the Rangers the third best chance of any A.L. team of winning its division (31.7%) and the second best chance of making the playoffs (54.0%), trailing the Angels in both categories and the Tigers in terms of likelihood of being a division champ. Anaheim, Texas and Detroit all are pegged at having at least a 50% chance of making the playoffs, while the A's, Rays, Yankees and Blue Jays are between 40-50%.
CAIRO is a little bit on the higher end of where I've seen the Rangers projected, but still, the consensus from Vegas and the projection systems seems to be that the Rangers should be expected to be in the upper 80s in wins, as the team is currently constituted, and should be one of the top few teams in the A.L.
Feel free to grab your grain of salt at this time.
