The Rangers have assigned 12 players to their minor league camp, with the most prominent of the cuts being third baseman Mike Olt.
Olt's chances of making the team out of camp, barring an injury to a starter, were slim, as it was deemed unlikely that the Rangers would keep Olt on the Opening Day roster in a bench role. Olt made that decision easier for the team by having a less than stellar camp while veteran Jeff Baker had a great camp. Baker seems like a near-lock for a bench job.
The others who were sent out today were Jeff Beliveau, Wilmer Font, and Engel Beltre, who are all on the 40 man roster and have all been optioned, as well as Collin Balestar, Evan Meek, Yoshinori Tateyama, Neal Cotts, Juan Apodaca, Jose Felix, Brandon Snyder, and Brandon Allen.
Snyder was the other player considered to be in the mix for the four corner bench role that Baker has seemingly seized.
