Rangers lose Woods, add McGuiness, trade Henry, release Snyder

Brandon Snyder, former Ranger - USA TODAY Sports

The Rangers announced a series of transactions today

The Rangers announced four transactions today.

First, Texas was unable to work out a deal with the Colorado Rockies that would allow them to retain RHP Coty Woods, who they selected in the Rule 5 Draft. Thus, Woods has been returned to the Rockies.

Secondly, Cleveland was unable to work out a deal with the Rangers that would allow the Indians to retain 1B Chris McGuiness, who the Indians selected in the Rule 5 Draft. Thus, McGuiness has been returned to the Rangers, and I'm presuming he will be playing first base for the Round Rock Express.

Third, the Rangers announced that 2011 4th round draft pick Desmond Henry has been sent to the Kansas City Royals as the player to be named later in last winter's deal that sent LHP Tommy Hottovy to the Rangers. Henry only picked up 6 plate appearances in the Arizona Rookie League in 2012, after posting a .140/.269/.140 line in the AZL in 2011. Henry was drafted as a fast guy who lacked baseball skills, and his development has been disappointing, to put it mildly.

Finally, the Rangers released Brandon Snyder today. Snyder spent much of the 2012 season on the Rangers' bench, and was signed to a minor league deal this offseason. The reports are that Snyder had requested his release, and so I suspect that part of the arrangement that the Rangers and Snyder made when he signed his deal with Texas was that they would grant his release, if he requested it, should he not make the team.
