Per the beat reporters on Twitter, the Rangers have announced that Tanner Scheppers and Joe Ortiz have made the team's Opening Day roster. Both will be in the bullpen.
There is one spot still to be filled on the Opening Day roster, with the battle being between Julio Borbon, Josh Lindblom and Cory Burns for the final spot. It appears that whoever wins that final spot will only be on the roster until the Rangers need a fifth starter, at which point Nick Tepesch will be promoted.
Scheppers, 26, pitching 32.1 innings in relief for the Rangers last season while splitting the year between the majors and the minors. He posted a 4.45 ERA, and alternated between looking dominant and looking way too hittable.
Ortiz, 22, put up a 2.15 ERA in 62.2 innings split between Frisco and Round Rock. He was added to the 40 man roster for the first time this offseason, and was viewed as a longshot coming into camp, but impressed the coaching staff and generated comparisons to Eddie Guardado.
