Outfielder Julio Borbon, who is out of options and who seemingly had no real shot at the Rangers' Opening Day roster, has made the Rangers' Opening Day roster, it has been announced.
Josh Lindblom and Cory Burns, the two pitchers who were also in the mix for the final roster spot, have been optioned to AAA Round Rock.
Borbon's triumph could be short-lived, however, as the Rangers will need to add Nick Tepesch to the roster in nine days. Tepesch won the fifth starter job, but is being sent to the minors until the fifth starter's spot is needed. Someone will have to be removed from the 25 man roster to make room for Tepesch, and Borbon would be the obvious candidate.
Borbon is the fifth outfielder, and joins Craig Gentry, Leury Garcia, and Geovany Soto on the Rangers' bench.
T.R. Sullivan has this to say about what this means for Borbon:
Borbon will likely be limited in his playing time while he is here.
