As was indicated yesterday, the Rangers have purchased the contract of Ross Wolf from AAA Round Rock.
To make room on the 25 man roster for Wolf, the Rangers have optioned righthanded reliever Cory Burns to AAA Round Rock.
Burns was called up when Alexi Ogando was put on the disabled list, and ended up surviving when the Rangers had to drop a reliever to bring up Josh Lindblom for Monday's spot start, as Derek Lowe was designated for assignment instead.
However, with Nick Tepesch being sidelined due to a blister issue, the Rangers had to bring up another starting pitcher today, and so Burns was the odd man out.
Wolf will be making his first major league start today, and will likely be designated for assignment after today's start. There's no obvious choice as to who will be promoted to take Wolf's place. Tepesch is expected to start Sunday's game against Seattle, and either Lindblom or Martin Perez is expected to be called up Monday to pitch one of the games in the doubleheader scheduled for that day.
