Per Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star Telegram, the Rangers are placing minor league third baseman Mike Olt on the minor league disabled list. Olt has an eye problem, and per Wilson, he will be seeing an eye specialist in 10 to 14 days.
Olt, who was rated the #22 prospect in baseball coming into this season by both Baseball America and MLB.com, has not played in almost two weeks, with his last appearance coming on April 25. Olt is sporting a .139/.235/.236 line for AAA Round Rock, with 32 strikeouts in 81 plate appearances.
Olt was thought by some to be in the mix for a major league job as a four corner (1B, 3B, LF, RF) bench player, or possibly even push Mitch Moreland for playing time at first base. Instead, he is looking at missing at least the next couple of weeks while the team looks to determine what is happening with his eyes.
