Olt Leaves Round Rock Game After HBP

Jim Cowsert-US PRESSWIRE

Minor league third baseman Mike Olt was hit in the head by a Philip Humber pitch tonight

Ranger third base prospect Mike Olt left tonight's game between the Round Rock Express and the Oklahoma City Redhawks after being hit in the head by a pitch from Philip Humber.

Olt, who is thought to have suffered some lingering effects after being hit in the head by a pitch in winter ball, struggled badly early in the season before having a vision problem diagnosed. The vision issue kept him on the d.l. for approximately a month.

Olt, who is primarily a third baseman but also plays first base and the outfield, had been viewed as a potential contributor at the major league level this season. The Rangers are in need of a righthanded hitting bench bat, but Olt's early problems have led the Rangers to keep him in AAA for now, in an effort to get him regular at bats and back on track.

Hopefully, Olt's departure from the game is just a precautionary measure, and won't impact him going forward. We'll update this story when more information is available.
