Matt Garza to the Brewers: 4 years, $52 million

The Brewers have signed free agent pitcher Matt Garza to a 4 year, $52 million deal

Matt Garza, Milwaukee Brewer: free agent pitcher Matt Garza has agreed to a 4 year, $52 million deal with the Milwaukee Brewers, per Ken Rosenthal.

Garza is one of several prominent free agent pitchers who (until now) was still on the market, and there's some thought that, with Masahiro Tanaka finally signing yesterday, that will end the holding pattern that guys like Garza, Ubaldo Jimenez, and Ervin Santana have been in.

Garza was acquired in July, 2013, by the Rangers in a mid-season deal with the Cubs that sent Mike Olt, Justin Grimm, C.J. Edwards and Neil Ramirez to Chicago.

Garza was a disappointment for the Rangers after the trade, going 4-5 with a 4.38 ERA in 84.1 innings.

Because Garza was traded mid-season, the Rangers could not offer him a qualifying offer, and thus the Brewers don't lose a draft pick.

I'm not a Garza fan, but at this price, he's a pretty good signing.  I was expecting something like 5 years, $80-85 million for Garza.  The soft market suggests that there are some concerns about his ability to stay healthy -- he's appeared in just 42 games the past two seasons.
