Roy Oswalt retirement: righthanded pitcher Roy Oswalt, long-time Astro and short-time Ranger (as well as, briefly, a Colorado Rockie and a Philadelphia Phillie, is reportedly retiring.
Oswalt, 36, had a disappointing stint in 2013 with the Colorado Rockies, putting up an 8.63 ERA in 32.1 innings, and the season before had a 5.80 ERA in 59 innings for the Rangers.
For the first 10 years of his career, however, he was outstanding, logging a 48.8 bWAR from 2001-10, with a 3.18 ERA and a 150-83 record in 2015 innings.
Rangers fans are, understandably, jaded about Oswalt, after his poor stint with Texas in 2012, but that shouldn't overshadow the fact that he appeared to be a likely Hall of Famer just a couple of years ago. A back injury in 2011, however, seems to have de-railed his career, as he was never the same pitcher after that.
