The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Philip Seymour Hoffman has died

Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has died at the age of 46, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The WSJ says Hoffman was found dead in his apartment in Manhattan.

According to the New York Post, police are treating this as a suspected overdose, as Hoffman was found in the bathroom with a needle in his arm.

Hoffman had previously publicly acknowledged his battles with substance abuse, and he went to rehab in 2012 for addiction issues.

Hoffman won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Capote, and received three nominations for Best Supporting Actor for his roles in Charlie Wilson's War, Doubt and The Master.  He played the role of Art Howe in the movie adaptation of "Moneyball," and had memorable supporting roles in The Big Lebowski, Boogie Nights, and Twister.

Hoffman has been in a long-term relationship with Mimi O'Donnell, with whom he leaves three children, ages 10, 7 and 5.
