Martin Perez has elbow soreness, will miss at least one start

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The beat guys say that Nick Tepesch will start Wednesday, filling in for Martin Perez, who is dealing with elbow soreness

Martin Perez, the 23 year old lefthanded pitcher for the Texas Rangers who has struggled in his last three starts, has been scratched from his next start due to elbow soreness, per the beat writers on Twitter.  Perez will have an MRI on his elbow and will be out at least one start, with Nick Tepesch starting on Wednesday against Houston, and Yu Darvish, who would have started on Wednesday, getting the start on Friday instead.

A young starting pitcher dealing with elbow soreness -- particularly after struggling with a lack of command -- is always scary.  The worst case scenario would be Tommy John surgery, which would likely put Perez on the shelf until the second half of the 2015 season, and would result in me locking myself in my room and crying for about 24 hours.

Tepesch has been outstanding for Round Rock this year, putting up 1 .58 ERA in 45.2 innings, with 41 Ks, 9 walks and just 1 home run.  Tepesch was scheduled to start today for the Express, but obviously has been scratched.
