God Bless America at our games...

USA TODAY Sports

Saw a post yesterday during the game yesterday about God Bless America.

Major League Baseball asks for God Bless America to be used on holidays and Sundays. To my knowledge the only club that does God Bless America at every game is the Yankees. Maybe once or twice a year, ownership will have someone they would like to have sing God Bless America that can't make it on the weekend, we will take care of those requests during the week, only once or twice a year.

At request of our ownership, we have God Bless America on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Usually on Fridays its an instrumental so the fans can sing a long. In my opinion, my preference would be for it to always be an instrumental, our fans do a great job of singing along with the instrumental and the words on the centerfield board.

Back in 2004, I attempted to start a tradition that our ballpark would be the place where the fans sing the anthem and God Bless America. About half way through the season, it failed. I was accused of being lazy by a lot of fans and by others. So, live singers were brought back. Again, in my opinion, nothing sounds better than a military band playing the National Anthem and the fans singing along. Tried to get MLB to do that for the World Series in 2011, they did not like the idea.

But as a rule, we do God Bless America on Friday, Saturday and Sundays. Most clubs only do it on Sunday. Don't forget, if you ever have any questions you can always email me at cmorgan@texasrangers.com
