The Boston Red Sox have fired manager John Farrell, the team has announced today.
Farrell has been the manager for the BoSox since the 2013 season, when he came in after the disastrous one year tenure of Bobby Valentine, and he led them to a World Series title that season. That was followed up by a pair of last place finishes in the A.L. East in 2014 and 2015, then first place finishes in both 2016 and 2017.
Boston was knocked out in the divisional round in each of the last two seasons, however, and there has been some speculation that after some of his moves came into question in the playoffs, and with Dave Dombrowski, who inherited Farrell, in place as team president, Farrell’s job could be in jeopardy.
