Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre has a grade 1 calf strain, according to the beat guys on Twitter. A grade 1 calf strain is the mildest form of a strain, but it is now doubtful whether Beltre will participate in the WBC, according to the beats.
Beltre is slated to be the starting third baseman for the Dominican Republic’s team in the WBC, which starts in a couple of weeks. Given that Beltre turns 38 in April, and has a history of dealing with leg muscle strains, I’m sure the Rangers’ preference would be that he take it easy and not play, though that decision will ultimately be up to Beltre.
