Around SBN: Penn State Recruiting Roundup Is Set For A Big Junior Day

I found someone I hate more than Buck

Greg Johnson.  What a horrible kicker.  He shanked two field goals and had an extra point blocked.  Now Texas is about to lose to the freakin Huskers.  MAybe Colt McCoy can pull a Vince Young and bail us out.

maybe
I am spoiled, but colt doesn't look like the qb for a national champion team.

well
The team around him doesn't quite look like a national championship team so in that respect he doesn't look like the quarterback for a national championship team. I don't think that's exactly what you meant though. Either way, what he has done as a freshman is remarkable.

There's no point in even playing the game.

Greg "Davis" is the Greg that...........
SUCKS ! First & goal at the TWO ! He's the reason we're kickin' so damn many field goals......and would have been the last two years, too, if not for Vince !

Greg Davis
Texas has lost 7 games in the last 5 years.  Excluding the Ohio State game this year where we were starting a freshman QB, we have averaged about 22 points in those losses, including the shutout against OU in 2004.  In three of those games, we scored 38, 28, and 24 points.

In those 7 losses, we have surrendered an average of 35 points.

For all the hate that Greg Davis gets, I'm not it's the offensive coordinator's fault for losing 7 games when the defense gives up an average of 35 points/game.

With the talent they've had..........
7 losses is probably too many........we forget about those 5 years with OU since we had Superman for 2 years........but Greg Davis stills sucks, just like he did pre-Vince.

should be fired just because of that 3rd down fade pass call on their last possession. what in the fuck was that????

by selppuc on Oct 22, 2006 5:40 PM CDT up reply actions

That call was fine
I talked to a friend this morning, who is completely neutral (Tech grad), who was amazed that the commentators were making such a big deal of it.

If it was intercepted you'd be complaining about how they were within 3 and din't just hit the chip shot field goal.

by mdickson on Oct 22, 2006 8:21 PM CDT up reply actions

No, I wouldn't be
That was the exact play I thought they would call, before the snap.

They had to throw the ball into the endzone.  Running it to the middle of the field would have resulted in a very rushed field goal attempt.

And I don't recall that pass, to that receiver, ever being intercepted.

by BurntOrange on Oct 22, 2006 8:37 PM CDT up reply actions

could have been intercepted
Going into the play, I thought the right call was to throw it into the end zone because you get either a stopped clock or a touchdown. However, that particular play and that pass (thown into double coverage) certainly could have been intercepted. I thought the announcers made a bit too much of it, but it was something of a risky call.
