Phil Nevin retired
Weird to think just one year ago he was stinking it up for the Rangers. Actually, it's kind of depressing to think about.
Well Mr. Burns had done it. The power plant had won it. With Roger Clemens clucking all the while.

by far my favorite ranger, developed my mancrush for him watching him in frisco, but.... He's driving me f'ing crazy right now. It's like soriano part two, just screws up the simplest plays.

Millwood couldn't find the strike zone with the offspeed stuff, so he basically tried to use nothing but fastballs.

LWJR

by lwjr on May 14, 2007 1:44 PM CDT reply actions

Now?
Now all of a sudden we don't have an ace?

The reason why a lot of people didn't like the Millwood signing was because he is not an ace and that's what the Ranger's were depending on him to be.  It's similar to trying to sign Zito to be an ace.  He's probably not one now, and who can imagine what he looks like in 7 years?  Both Zito and Milwood are just very good pitchers, but are better in the No. 2 slot.  No matter what the teams forking over big money tell you...

by GhettoBear04 on May 14, 2007 1:50 PM CDT up reply actions

right
millwood is more of a #2 guy, but he has been the rangers ace since he signed...when you have no clear cut #1, you're best #2 because the ace of the staff.
And I can't fault the millwood signing, it looks very good considering the contracts people got this season

I can't fault the signing either. He had generally been a fairly above-average pitcher, and was coming off a season where he led the AL in ERA when Texas signed him.
