Free Agent Outfielders
Who should the Rangers go after in free agency after this season?
Torii Hunter(Age-32 - AVG .294 | HR 23 | RBI 79 | OBP .336 | SLG .544
He is 32 and if this team is going young i dont know why give him a big contract
Jermaine Dye(Age-33)- AVG .242 | HR 23 | RBI 61 | OBP .302 | SLG .495
Dye is having a down year but I wouldn't mind giving him a one year contract.
Andruw Jones(Age-30)- AVG .215 | HR 21 | RBI 73 | OBP .313 | SLG .419
Terrible average but pretty good defense.
Aaron Rowand(Age-29)- AVG .316 | HR 18 | RBI 65 | OBP .388 | SLG .526
Having a career year, so its a risk. Plays hards and good defense in CF.
Corey Patterson(Age-27)- AVG .268 | HR 5 | RBI 34 | OBP .308 | SLG .380
One thing I found about hims is that he hits left handed pitcher really well. Avg. VS. LEFT: .328. I think Patterson has the most questions offensively.
Kosuke Fukudome(Age-30)- From Japan, bats lefty.
Milton Bradley(Age-29)- AVG .329 | HR 7 | RBI 22 | OBP .421 | SLG .543
Has problem staying with one team but the talent in there. I forgot to put Mike Cameron. Mike Cameron(Age-34)- AVG .252 | HR 14 | RBI 56 | OBP .321 | SLG .435

Fukudome
if he is, his value could be down, and he could be a reasonable sign.

non of th above
the byrnes contract is gonna make these guys pretty damn pricey too.
not into any of them. if i HAD to choose one, it'd be Andrew Jones.
hunter - he's good for 22-28 homers and 15 stolen bases. 6 straight gold gloves. put up pretty good career numbers in a slight pitchers park. has taken advantage this year with great players in his lineup (mauer, morneau, castillo, cuddyer) and is having a career year...in a contract year.
Jermaine Dye - i like him better than hunter, though he's 33. can't stay on 1 team. career year LAST year, a down year this year, but he'll still get 30 homers. plays hitters park. he's good for 25 homers. an average to slightly above average fielder. other than his homers and rbi, is having a real bad year.
jones - 9 gold gloves. not a great fielder anymore, but still an asset in the field. as far as i can tell, atl is a neutral park. never been 1 to hit for average, his average is abysmally low this season. he SHOULD be good for .260/.340/.500. 30+ homers. gets high strikeout numbers, but can talk a walk too. good enough speed to also get some doubles.
rowand - played his whole career in parks that favor hitters. is posting career highs across the board...in a contract year. seems to be good for 16 homers and 10 sb. somebody is gonna jump all over his career year and overpay. until this year, his career high in walks was 32.
patterson - just no. good for stolen bases, keep him as a pinch hitter....no.
bradley - only if he can be had for sosa money and is the 4th outfielder.
honestly

Hideki Matsui
Fukodome
I could see him being a bit similar to Rusty Greer, which as we all know, isn't a bad player at all.
looks like he could hit
Bradley
- You overpay for Greatness
- You promote from your farm
- You fill in with one year contracts what you can't cover with your farm and with greatness.
That may be too much, but I would rather pay more over the course of one year then a decent amount over several years. This is especially true when you consider that none of these players really fit into the long-term plans of the Rangers.

greatness
fit
Well, imo
If we're rebuilding, we don't need to be signing any mammoth FA contracts.
As ap layer, though, Andruw is a great fit here, imo.

Cameron?
Forgive my redundance
First option, lets use that ammo to trade for an outfielder.
It doesn't have to be a CFer, athough that would be ideal. I don't think its unreachable.
If we could land a stud young corner boy (props to the Wire), that would be almost as good. We could live w/ byrd or Murph or even kenny part deux if we could score a quad-tooler at a corner.
That's the way to go. FA this year is a 4 to 1 losing proposition, in my middling baseball mind.
Maybe my metaphor is wrong, though. Perhaps we dumped this:

And popped this bad boy in:

Chris Young. It could happen...
Oh Fuck!

Where the hell did this come from?
I like the idea, but...
They are a young team that is winning their division and next season will be expected to be even better. Why would they trade an emerging star, who is also a young cornerstone of their lineup? Their lineup is pretty much stacked with talented young players, so the only way to get them interested would be to offer quality ML ready pitching, which is one thing to we can't afford to trade.
I saw you throw out some names in another thread like Duran (he'd be blocked by O. Hudson), Laird (backup catcher), and minor league arms (contending caliber team don't normally trade young everyday players for A/AA arms). I don't see how any combination of our tradable assets would even be the slightest bit tempting for Arizona to give up Chris Young.
I'm like you in that I'd love to have him, but short of an offer like McCarthy, Gabbard, and CJ I don't see much that we have that would be tempting to them.
Well, the reason I mention Young is obvious
I was just throwing it out there as an alternative to pursuing Torii Hunter. I didn't check the dbacks roster to assess their needs.
I also think it is a little early to write Laird off as a backup. He's hit like it this year, sure, but he's shown potential, and I'd be surprised if there aren't a few teams out there who would be interested in him as a starter. I could be wrong, I guess.
I probably am dreaming when it comes to Young, but I think the best way to acquire premium talent is to find a team who is heavy in the area you're after. Take John Meloan, for example. On the Dbacks, he's a much more precious commodity than he is for the Dodgers.
Its easier to trade a Meloan when you have a Billingsley, Broxton, and Kershaw, just like it's easier to trade Chris Young when you have Upton and Gonzalez.
