Very quiet day out there today...

Evan Grant has his #11 prospect up on the DMN blog, and it is Max Ramirez...

That's about it...

Tim at MLBTRADERUMORS is doing
a new thing about what ifs.  His first was what if Texas traded Blalok and Danks for Beckett and Lowell.  Any way it was alright of a read but favors the Sox more.  Read the comments, someone wants to know about this trade that got axed, "what if the Alex Rodriguez for Manny Ramirez/John Lester trade had been allowed by the Player's Association?  Why did we get fucked so hard by the P.A.?  Lester and Manny would have been huge.  All we got was Sori and Arias.  What a bunch of Yankee favoring bullshit.

The Rangers F&*cked themselves
they didn't need the PA to do it.

The Rangers were looking for a total of 25 or so million back in the deal.  Had they just said to hell with the 25 million, the deal would have happened.   Instead, they insisted, and ARod tried to get it out of his contract, which the MLBPA didnt allow.

So, what happens if the Rangers had done the deal?

The Rangers get Lester, and Manny, and owe Manny 100 million or so over 5 years.

What did the Rangers do instead?

They get Soriano and Arias, and they paid the Yankees $65 million for the privilege.

So the 2 deals were basicly

Lester and Manny for 5 years, for 100 Million dollars

Soriano for 2 years and Arias for $78 Million

The second deal looks better to me.

Of course it looks better,
look at what each player has done for their team.  Lester and Man Ram are better players playing premium spots, and Arias hasn't done shit.  He will never pan out to be anymore then a utility player.  Sori is serverly overpaid.  Man Ram is a future Hall of famer, and Lester is a solid 2-3 in most rotations(at least potential wise).  God I hate being a Ranger fan sometime.

screwed ourselves twice
Once as you mention above, but the second deal would have looked a lot better (still inferior to the BoSox deal, but better) if we had taken 2 years of Soriano and 6 of Cano instead of Arias.

I forgot about that,
but at the time we had young at second so a SS with good upside looked more intriguing.  I think SS and 2nd have turned out all right but you can't get mad at them aquiring a good SS prospect at the time(god I sound like the Arias lover Miles)lol.

I rather have Kinsler at 2nd...
but the point is still valid. Cano would have probably pushed Kinsler somewhere else. Don't know where though. More likely he'd been traded I'd think.

yup
Those nasty Yankees can't fool us by hiding the Spiderman on the backfields with a different number every day. Noooo, we're way too smart to fall for that one.

so right now
we could be looking at a rotation that includes Beckett, Lester, Chris Young and an offense with Lowell and Manny.  Nice.  I was OK this offseason, the Hamilton trade made me pretty happy, but now I'm downright depressed.

Hindsight is a bitch...
I really don't think about the past too much when it comes to this team...I'm looking forward to all the new players we have and the development. That's enough to keep me excited and content until we fall to 10-20 for April lol

Evan Grant's Prospect List
Hmmm... He must not be the biggest Teagarden guy.

"For your daily dose of prospect pulse, we start a stretch of three consecutive catchers (hint, hint). Catching depth is a real asset for the organization."

So unless I'm missing someone, that means the next two on the list are probably gonna be Cristian Santana and Taylor Teagarden in some order, meaning he has Teagarden no higher than 9th or 10th in Evan's rankings.

I thought I was being conservative regarding Teagarden by putting him 7th when I did my own for-fun rankings, but most people have him a good deal higher, and Sickels has him number one overall in our system.

The injury history really bothers me for a position as physically demanding as catcher, and a batting average driven by a very high (unsustainable?) BABiP last year (.397 in A+, and .418 in AA) make me hesitant to call him a "top" prospect.

Let's hope he shuts me up by putting up another healthy .300/.400/.500 season in the minors this year.

Yes, let's hope that.
I would rank him higher than Grant does since he remained healthy all year and seemed to be throwing well, but I can understand worrying about the delayed development time and injury history.  I think that even if the injuries mean he slips from stellar to average on defense, he's still a very good catching prospect if his bat keeps up the good work.

It will be most interesting to see if he does well catching 5 days a week this year.  On the plus side...I can imagine a scenario where by 2009 or 2010 Teagarden and Ramirez share catching duties with Ramirez DHing and catching 2 to 3 times a week.  If you have two catchers who hit well you can do that and save them both some wear and tear.

Matt Harrison
He has Matt Harrison at 14th. Am I the only one who sees him in our top 7 or so?

by CMF on Jan 16, 2008 2:58 PM CST up reply actions

I have him lower than 14th, personally
He's a wide spectrum guy.

Some people love him, some... not so much.

I want to see him healthy and productive before I get too carried away with him.

Perhaps I'm too gun shy after Mario Ramos-gate, but I don't like the low K rate and I think he puts too many people on base.

I've got an open mind regarding Harrison, but I'm not too excited about him yet.

The AFL was a great start in changing my mind though.

Glavine comp?
Is Harrison a Glavine type of pitcher? If he could give the Rangers half of what Glavine has done I would be happy with that.

If ANY pitcher in our system
came up and gave us a quarter of Tommy Glavine's accmplished in his career, the Rangers would look like genuses.
