Elizardo Ramirez

Perhaps it is time we discuss this guy.  Through two innings today, he has given up 3 hits and K'ed 4 guys.  By my count, that brings his spring line to 8 innings, 5 hits, 6 Ks, and 1 BB.  The one BB part is what sticks out to me.

His career stats are here:

I believe at one time he was considered a decent prospect with the Phillies but he Volquezed through three frustrating years with the Reds before the Rangers grabbed him this winter.  He does not appear to be a strikeout pitcher, although this website says he has good stuff (cred in question):

He has been an extreme flyball pitcher this spring, which is usually a bad thing in Arizona, but clearly he has not been too negatively effected.  Does anyone know anything about this guy, and can anyone who has seen him pitch offer anything?

Thanks!

When
I first glanced at it I thought it said "Erasmo Ramirez" so I got pumped up, now I'm sad.

I just watched him
really skinny little guy;  like a Dominican Bryan Corey;  great stuff today;  I have to believe that someone here figured something out that the folks in Cincy didn't see, because his track record and what he looks like right now don't match at all

Not really
But neither is Brandon McCarthy, really.

Maybe it's just the physiqe, but Elizardo Ramirez reminds me a lot of McCarthy - I think myself he should be in contention for the 5th starters spot, at this point.

Hey, he's outpitched everyone that is in contention for it.

the lizard
I understand how everyone says how he seems like a different pitcher, but giving up more than a hit an inning in the minors doesn't exactly bode well for a player in the majors.  I see a lot of robinson tejeda, rather than edinson volquez, in the lizard.  The Phillies, when trading tejeda, thought that he was a lucky pitcher always weaseling out of jams.  If ramirez has somehow put it together, i am all for him getting his chance, but i wouldn't hold my breath on it.
