Jason Grey on Gutierrez & Harrison
Danny Gutierrez, Texas Rangers: The Kansas City Royals basically gave him away because of his attitude and off-field issues, but it's a good arm that is coming back nicely from a shoulder injury. He sits at 92-94 mph and touched 95 with a good curve that he can change speeds on. He's also just 22, and with improved maturity, has some weapons to be an impact starter.
Matt Harrison, Texas Rangers: The good news is that he touched 94 mph in short stints in his return from thoracic outlet surgery, but he won't work there as a starter and his upside is limited due to his inability to miss enough bats.

Sigh... RVP injured in International play
Sucks.. Actually been some pretty good games today, Egypt vs. Algeria was amazing. Egypt needed 2 goals to force a playoff.. Up 1-0 after a goal in the first minute, they get a second in the 95th to force a playoff. Unbelievable.

Sickels on the AFL
What where your takes on Scheppers and Gutierrez?
Like or dislike Scheppers mechanics?
Did you get to see Mitch Moreland? Is he now a legit prospect or still a fringe guy?

scheppers
Scheppers looked awesome. I don’t see any huge mechanical issues, and his stuff is first class, but given the shoulder trouble it might be best to use him in relief at first. Gutierrez didn’t have Schepper’s stuff, but he still showed a good arm. HIs main problem is off-field issues.
Didn’t get to see Moreland, but people who did were pretty impressed with him. I saw him a couple of years ago and thought he had an underrated bat at the time.

Rosenthal - Sources: Vizquel not returning to Rangers
Free-agent shortstop Omar Vizquel will not be back with the Rangers, major-league sources say.
Vizquel, 42, had 195 plate appearances last season, and is looking for the same type of utility role.
He would prefer a higher-profile team, one source says.

Granderson Available?
According to Joel Sherman, Granderson is available as the Tigers are in cost-cutting mode.
If the Rangers really are uncertain if Borbon can play CF, then I'd hope they are in on Granderson. He is about a 4 WAR player who plays good defense in center and is reasonably patient at the plate. He is under contract through 2013. He would be a terrific addition. I'd also have some interest in Jackson, although I'd imagine his perceived value is much higher than his real value.
