<div class="entry-body">
 Here was what our local CBS sports guy had to say on Sexson. I live in Kennewick, WA, so this is a Mariners guy. That makes it even funnier.

<strong>"Richie Sexson charged the mound last night, going after Rangers pitcher Kason Gabbard. After a high pitch and high tensions, the Mariners slugger went off.

That pitch wasn’t within two feet of Sexson’s head, but close enough for Richie to think it was retaliation for a couple of Texans made targets by Felix Hernandez.
Today, Sexson was suspended for six days, and was fined for, quote, 'violent and aggressive actions.'

Sexson is appealing. He aught to just take it like a man and move on. Sexson didn’t go after Gabbard like a man, taking off his helmet and throwing it at the guy. Embarrassing, for Mariners fans. For a team that’s played embarrassingly bad, the M’s first baseman aught to be embarrassed after another obviously frustrating, under-achieving, Richie Sexson-like start."</strong>
My heart goes out to his son and his family, I can understand some frustratin, but still.

<div class="entry-body">
 Tony Patch, who was not a passenger on Benson's boat, told WXAN-TV in Austin that he saw LCRA police "manhandling" Benson.

"As they were taking him up the dock, they stopped. He said, 'I am fine, I can continue walking,' and they put their legs behind his knees and knocked him over his knees and started hog-carrying him," Patch said, according to the report.

"They ended up -- I don't know why -- but laid him on his back, I heard him say, 'Please don't pepper-spray me, please don't pepper-spray me,'" Patch said, according to the report. "It was uncalled for, it was ludicrous, no point for it."

I'm interested where this goes, just updating the story. I'll leave my opinions out of this for now because obviously I'm wrong and everyone else is right.

"For $150 million, you'd like to at least see him run a ball out. I watched him for a week, and I think there was one ball all week where he tried to extend himself. That was a double-play ball, and he was still like 4.8 [seconds] getting down the line. On a routine ground ball, he's 5.2, maybe 5.1. It's ridiculous to even pull the clock out."

<div class="entry-body">
 Some quotes from <em>Baseball for Dummies</em>, by Joe Morgan.

Pg. 94
There comes a time in every baseball season when anyone - even hulking sluggers like Sammy Sosa or Carlos Delgado - should bunt. For example, say you're playing a game that decides whether you or your opponent clinches a championship. You come to bat with the winning run on first and nobody out in the bottom of the ninth inning. I don't care how many home runs you hit all season, your job is to bunt that runner to second base.

Pg. 287
This stat (WHIP) tells you how many base runners a pitcher surrenders for every inning pitched...A WHIP below 1.50 is outstanding in these heavy-hitting days.

Pg. 289
Everyone believes that a .300 hitter is a good player and that a pitcher with a low ERA is a good pitcher. That belief is not necessarily the case. . . A .300 hitter makes seven outs for every ten at-bats, and if his seven outs come with men on base and his three hits come with no one on base, these hits are not very productive. . . Likewise, many pitchers pitch just good enough to lose. . .Run production is how you measure hitters. Wins and losses are how you measure pitchers. Batting averages and ERAs are personal stats.

 43-year-old woman reportedly got into argument at bar prior to incident

NASHUA, N.H. - A 43-year-old Nashua, N.H. woman faces murder charges after a man she's accused of running down during the weekend died.

Witnesses say the incident was sparked by an argument between Red Sox and Yankees fans at a Nashua bar early Friday morning.

Ivonne Hernandez is accused of killing 29-year-old Matthew Beaudoin, and injuring his friend, 21-year-old Maria Hughes, by running them down with her car. She's also charged with drunken driving.

Police say the incident followed an argument. They haven't released details, but witness are saying an argument broke out in Slade's Food & Spirits after Hernandez said she was a Yankees fan. They said Beaudoin was among a group of people who began chanting at Hernandez.

"I was not intoxicated," Benson told the Chicago Sun-Times. "There was alcohol on the boat and others were enjoying themselves, but I wasn't drunk."

"They gave me a field sobriety test, told me to say my ABCs and told me to count from 1 to 4 up and down," Benson told the Chicago Tribune. "I'm thinking, I passed all the tests, did everything right. Then the officer told me we needed to go to land to take more tests.
