Nationals to shake up roster for September
Sports Network | August 31, 2008
Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The Washington Nationals announced several roster moves slated for Monday, when rosters expand in Major League Baseball for September. The Nationals will recall outfielder Roger Bernadina and infielder Kory Casto from Triple-A Columbus on Monday. The Nationals will also purchase the contracts of right-handed pitchers Shairon Martis and Levale Speigner, and left-handed pitcher Mike Hinckley from Columbus. Casto has hit .193 with one homer and 10 RBI in 49 games for the Nationals this season. He also appeared in 16 games for Washington in 2007, and hit only .130. The club will also reactivate infielder Alberto Gonzalez from the 15-day disabled list. Gonzalez, who was acquired from the Yankees on July 31, got off to a great start with the Nationals, going 6-for-13, but headed to the DL because of a left hamstring strain. All moves should be made prior to Washington's series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.
