Recap: Pittsburgh vs. NY Mets

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Mike Pelfrey hurled seven innings of shutout ball and the Mets bullpen held on for the win, as New York edged Pittsburgh 2-1 in the opener of a four-game series from PNC Park.
Pelfrey (11-8) scattered seven hits with one strikeout and no walks to earn the win, while Jose Reyes and Argenis Reyes had two hits and a run scored each. David Wright knocked in a run for the Mets, who have won four straight and seven of nine to take a 1 1/2 game lead over Philadelphia in the NL East.
Jason Davis (1-2) allowed the first four batters of the game to reach base leading to a pair of runs, but recovered nicely to scatter six hits overall with three walks and as many strikeouts over seven innings. The right-hander took the loss after coming off a no-decision on Sunday in his first start since 2005.
Adam LaRoche was 3-for-4 with three singles and Jack Wilson hit his first home run of the season for Pittsburgh, which has dropped three of four.
A pair of Reyes' started the contest with a pair of singles. Wright knocked in Jose with a single to right, and a Davis wild pitch allowed Argenis to cross home for a 2-0 lead. Carlos Delgado became the fourth straight Met to reach base with a walk, but Davis retired the next three in order to avoid further damage.
Davis settled down to retire 11 straight, allowing just three singles over six innings after the rocky first, while Pelfrey was in control from the outset.
Nate McLouth started the home sixth with a double but was tagged during a rundown on Freddy Sanchez's fielder's choice and Ryan Doumit hit into a double play to end the inning.
Adam LaRoche collected his third hit leading off the seventh and moved to second on his brother Andy's groundout. Brandon Moss followed with a single back through the middle, but center fielder Carlos Beltran fired a two-hop strike to get Adam LaRoche at the plate and preserve New York's two-run lead.
Jack Wilson took a Duaner Sanchez offering out to left leading off the eighth to make it a one-run game, and Pedro Feliciano came on to allow a two-out double to Sanchez. Adam LaRoche managed only a weak grounder to first, though, for the third out.
Aaron Heilman entered in the ninth and got Andy LaRoche on a groundout and Moss on strikes before Michaels kept the game going with a walk. Wilson then popped weakly to short, handing Heilman his third save of the season.
New York tied up the season series 2-2 with the win while the Mets took four of six matchups last season, including two of three at PNC Park...Saturday's scheduled starters are Pedro Martinez (3-3) for New York and Zach Duke (4-10) for Pittsburgh.
