Mets closer Wagner experiences setback

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - New York Mets closer Billy Wagner experienced a setback with his injured left arm while throwing 20 pitches in a simulated game on Saturday, and is likely to stay on the disabled list longer than expected.
After feeling tightness in the left arm, the closer met with pitching coach Dan Warthen, trainer Ray Ramirez, manager Jerry Manuel and assistant general manager Tony Bernazard prior to the Mets' 7-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday. The group decided that Wagner would return to New York on Sunday to have the arm examined again.
Wagner was put on the disabled list on August 5 due to a strained muscle in his left forearm. The 37-year-old was also examined in mid-July for stiffness in his left shoulder.
The lefty said that pitching on successive days was beyond his limitation and pitching three consecutive games was out of the question. He stated that a closer who can't throw on consecutive days "is worthless."
Wagner acknowledged that he probably could throw a full-speed fastball, but was unsure of his ability for command.
