Jason Terry Sucks

I dont blame him for missing the last shot, just to be clear. But why are we rushing it with 6 seconds on the clock, and your wide open. Set your feet and shoot, this isnt P.E. class. It was about his fourth P.E. shot of the quarter, and basically killed any rally they had all night.

Hopefully the Mavs will do the right thing and let him walk, otherwise, look for more of the same.

are ya'll serious?
you want to get rid of terry?  He carried us for several games...i am pretty sure without him we would have never beaten SA.  Terry had a better series than Dirk, our supposed MVP candidate.  Get off his fucking back.  Wow he had a bad game.  So because your second or third best player (is howard better?) had a bad game that means your team can't win?  You are pathetic to get on Terry's back saying we should get rid of him...unbelievable.

well..
I'd be for keeping him as a backup point/shooting gaurd off of the bench, but I doubt that he'd agree to come back as a bench player.

do you know anything about basketball?  if u r serious please get off this blog.

I like Terry...
I just think he'd be better coming off the bench as a shooting gaurd, and that maybe the its time to see what Harris has as a starting pointgaurd.

by jcir454 on Jun 20, 2006 11:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Harris
He played a lot of minutes during the playoffs, and he made a lot of mistakes.  I like him, but I don't think he's going to be as good as a lot of people think.

Terry doesn't suck.  He doesn't have a lot of assists because he's not asked to be a real PG for the Mavs.  They play a different offense.  Terry is a good player in the playoffs and a LOT of teams will be interested in him.

I don't blame him or Nowitzki for the Mavs losing the series.  Dirk was covered well, and that might be because the rest of the Mavs were extremely reluctant to go to the hoop.  Shot blocks or not, you have to get in there.  They should've learned that lesson half-way through game five.  The Mavericks have a lot of players who are able to get in there and take their knocks, but for some reason they didn't and settled for jumpers.  End of story.

by Dustin on Jun 21, 2006 12:42 AM CDT up reply actions

" the Mavs were extremely reluctant to go
to the hoop."

That's what killed us right there. When you are clanking right and left like we were, drive. The zebras give it to the penetrator 80% of the time (99.5% if your name rhymes with Dwayne Wade), and we just kept dishing it out to Terry and Stack to launch the clunkers.

Dirk needs to take a page out of the Tim Duncan/Wade playbook, and finagle some of those sheisty BS shooting fouls. Those 2 dudes make a living off that crap. Dirk can too...

Re: is Howard better?
If you can't see how much clearly better (and more valuable) Josh Howard is than Jason Terry, then maybe you ought not to casually throw around adjectives like "pathetic."

And while Dirk didn't have the finals he could have, no way the "Jet" had "a better series," as you put it...

I think...
you're not able to understand the speed of an NBA game.  He wouldn't have had time to set his feet better.  Yes, there were a few seconds left, but that was going to be the most open look they could get.  I had no problem with the shot.

Maybe harsh on getting rid
Maybe shouldnt get rid of him, but the rushing shots thing was horrible.

Also think if Marquis Daniels can stay healthy, it'd open up a spot for him to get more PT.

by Nichols22 on Jun 20, 2006 11:22 PM CDT reply actions

daniels
should get more pt...but terry is still a fabolous player and we are a much worse team without him than with him...

by Agreen07 on Jun 20, 2006 11:23 PM CDT up reply actions

Daniels
has probably played his last game as a Mav.

by rbarton on Jun 20, 2006 11:27 PM CDT up reply actions

Not if we get some a big man
We let him walk, then we make a hard push for one the of the big men that becomes available. Maybe even a push for Garnett.

Just please not Kaman. Please.

by Nichols22 on Jun 20, 2006 11:25 PM CDT reply actions

first off why
would we get a big man?  Why do you want to tear apart a team that lost in 6 to the NBA finals?

by Agreen07 on Jun 20, 2006 11:26 PM CDT up reply actions

second off
no to kaman?  obviously we would never pursue a big man with damp and diop already, but kaman is better than both of them!

by Agreen07 on Jun 20, 2006 11:27 PM CDT up reply actions

Dont tear the team apart
Just add an inside presence. If we could get someone to spread the floor just a little more for Dirk, and even Jet we'd be amazing. If they do keep the core together, which they will, then they should win it all with just one more piece of the puzzle.

by Nichols22 on Jun 20, 2006 11:31 PM CDT reply actions

you suggested
getting KG, you would have to tear the team apart to do that.  You would have to give them devin harris and josh howard.  and that wouldn't be enough.

by Agreen07 on Jun 20, 2006 11:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Keep the core the same
and the Mavs are back in the finals next year.

Oh, and Terry was the best player on the Mavs this series.

He was
our MVP of the series.  He kept us in all of the games, Dirk didn't show up to all of the games...

Uh, how did he keep us in this game?
With his 2 for 17 shooting spree, his 2 swatted layups, or his assist-free 2nd half?

cause he has one bad game
that means what?  Dirk had plenty of bad games in this series...almost every game

by Agreen07 on Jun 21, 2006 1:37 AM CDT up reply actions

your boy Terry
  His playoff numbers:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3333

19 points a game, a "pathetic" (to borrow your word) 3.7 assists, which is almost offset by his 2 turnovers a game (shocking that # isn't higher). No other numbers worth mentioning, although if they had a stat for getting burnt on slashes to the interior, he'd be amongst league leaders.

If points per game are your ultimate stat, Terry's ok. But even by that misinformed standard, only 2 of Terry's games in this series were good (his line: 32,16,16,17,35,16).

Look, don't get me wrong, I like Jason Terry as a leader, and from interviews, he seems like a pretty good guy, but those of you (and there are many) that suggest he EVER carried us in the playoffs this year are truly mistaken. And I am not on the dump him/trade him bandwagon, either (although most of that fervor is probably born of current frustration that will likely be recanted manana).

Jason Terry doesn't suck, but if you think he is even close to the player Josh Howard is, then, well, I'd prefer we are done talking...

You are
comparing 2 totaly different players.  One is our defensive stopper and one is our offensive catelyst.  Terry carried us along, we could not have been so successfull without him.  Compaing Terry and Howard is like comparing apples and oranges.  Howard faded thoughout the game the past few, Terry had been our only liability...

by miles on Jun 21, 2006 2:59 AM CDT up reply actions

I wasn't saying
Howard was not better than Terry.  However I was stating it the way I was because I am sure there are people who feel that way.  I think Howard is great.  He is still very young and he can get even better than he is now.  To say Terry had a bad playoffs is crazy talk.  If I measure how good he is by his scoring?  He is a shooting guard, that is what he is supposed to do.  Why are you counting his assists?  Around 4 assists is great for him.  He isn't even a true point guard, and often times when he is in the game with Harris, it is Devin who plays point.

by Agreen07 on Jun 21, 2006 3:23 PM CDT up reply actions

He's a point guard
I'd have no problem with him as a shooting guard (except for his defense). Saying points are all that matters is like saying RBI's are all that matter in baseball.

There are so many important facets to the game, and Terry, unfortunately, excels in only one: perimeter shooting.

And I never said he had a bad playoffs. I'm just sick of people saying he carried the team. If all you contribute is scoring, and you are held to under 18 4 out 6 times, how are you carrying anything?

But, as I said in another post, I guess I'm kind of a douche for even bothering to reply.

  It's over.

Remove anything about KG
And anything too harsh on JET. Just very upset at the time, and those are the things that first came to mind.

But hopefully we can add one more consistent offensive threat to complement those two.

by Nichols22 on Jun 20, 2006 11:36 PM CDT reply actions

it is kind of interesting
after game 2 we all thought this team was good enough to win the title.  i guess it still is...they were good enough, they just didn't get it done.

by Agreen07 on Jun 20, 2006 11:43 PM CDT up reply actions

i'd get rid of Stackhouse, not Terry
maybe we can trade Stackhouse (1 year left on his contract) to a team with a decent player under a long, bad contract.  That team would probably do it to get rid of the salary and clear up their cap situation sooner rather than later, while Dallas would get younger and perhaps more versatile.

I'm not sure who fits into this category, but I wonder how badly Portland wants to move Zach Randolph and his bloated salary.

I know he's a cancer, but people thought similar things about Stackhouse too.

by willamos2 on Jun 20, 2006 11:46 PM CDT reply actions

Shut the
fuck up.  Ok, we lost the finals.  That doesn't mean we need to start getting rid of our players.  Jason Terry doesn't suck, neither does anyone else.  We just got outplayed.  Lets not jump to conclusions.

our biggest problem to me is that
Stackhouse, Harris, and Howard are VERY inconsistent with their shots.  When they are going good, no one can beat the Mavs.

When they arent making open shots, Dirk and Terry dont get any room and our offense bogs down.

We are a deep team but our depth is very inconsistent.

Its because
we don't know how to drive it, jump shooting teams go on bad streaks...

speaking of that...
what the hell happened to Stack?

I never liked him but at least he used to get to the free throw line whenever he wanted.  Now he is an average jump shooter, below average passer, and a horrible horrible defender.

by kumar75150 on Jun 21, 2006 12:46 AM CDT up reply actions

yep
that's kind of why I'd like to trade him.

A nice-sized expiring contract has to be attractive to the right team.

by willamos2 on Jun 21, 2006 12:47 AM CDT up reply actions

fuck
I thought his contract was already up.

We need a guy with an outside shot as a backup guards and a decent power forward.
