Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

Wednesday morning things

Yay, a win.  Robinson Tejeda continues to impress, and while his peripherals are a little worrisome -- his K rate should be higher, especially given his low GB/FB ration -- I think he's locked himself into a starting spot for next year.

Evan Grant discusses the contrast between Tejeda and Edinson Volquez, with Tejeda solidifying a spot the Rangers 2007 rotation over the last 6 weeks of the season, while Volquez has been hammered, causing the Rangers to stage an "intervention" with him yesterday.  Buck, Mark Connor and Dom Chiti all met with him to let him know he wasn't going to pitch again in the majors this year, and to map out a plan for what they want him to do in the offseason.

Not Rangers related, but obviously, the Terrell Owens situation is a big story right now...you can see a copy of the police report here.

Kat O'Brien has a piece on Carlos Lee's pending free agency, with Lee interested in coming back, and the Rangers at least saying that they are interested in bringing him back.  Personally, I think he's gone, but we'll see...

T.O.'s statement
Deion came out and said that T.O.'s statement has been moved back to 2:15 at Valley Ranch. I assume that's CST, but I'm not sure. MSNBC will stream it live if you go to their homepage.
You might think I'm crazy. I agree with you.

press conference
Apparently Parcells is going to have a conference at 1:30 CST, and Owens will have one at 2:30. WFAA's site will be carrying them as well.

I actually...
think he's telling the truth.  He's just run a two-hour practice and he probably knows what we know, but hasn't been informed of the details yet.

TO news conference
Huh. He looked/sounded good. Just based on that, I think it's pretty safe to say that he did ingest 35 Vicodine less than 24 hours ago. Still some things that don't add up, though. He needs to get a new publicist. She kind of freaked out.

correction
meant to say that based on his performance, it's pretty clear he did NOT take 3 dozen Vicodine last night.
You might think I'm crazy. I agree with you.

yeah
i believe bledsoe also said they were out practicing (though i may be mistaken) and i'd think someone who nearly od'd wouldnt be out practicing, then again i've never swallowed 35 vicodin so what do i know.

Vicodin
I've taken one at a time on a prescription, and it messes you up pretty well.

Volquez
I like that they are communicating with someone for once, I hope he gets to work this winter and nails down the 5th spot in spring training.

This T.O. stuff is way overblown imho.  Do we really need multiple press conferences and tv news bulletins because a football player took some pills?  Nothing sports related is quite that important.

T.O.
I agree with you, but this is a Cowboys-related story, and the DFW sports media flips out anytime anything Cowboys happens, particularly when there's potential scandal involved.

I've never understood it, to be honest. You don't see nearly the same level of ridiculousness when the Rangers, Mavs, or Stars are involved.

not sure communication counts...
when it's broadcast to the media 5 minutes later.  what happened to privacy and trust?  if i were a player who they spoke to, i wouldn't want the world to know about it.

you don't get points for communication when it's insincere.

I don't see
anything insincere about it.  The media surely would have asked questions about why he wasn't starting Sunday.  This is a clear explanation of what's going on, that they aren't throwing him out, and they have a plan to keep his development going.

Buck's track record is poor, but this is not an example of that.

Isnt it funny
How the Rangers are always interested in bringing crappy new players back, but they never seem very interested in bringing their own players (tex young Blalock) back?

Why dont you people listen to me?

"Why dont you people listen to me?"
The short answer is: Cause you're you.
