Torre out in New York
Joe Torre has rejected a one year contract extension with the Yankees, and apparently will not be back as the Yanks manager next year.

So the Yanks offered to extend him ...
well
The one year contract would make it easy to fire him if they started slow again...
I'd say it is still the Yankees getting rid of him, not Torre deciding to quit.

The Yanks HAD to know...
still would
i agree im not surprised that he declined it and neither should they... but yeah, its not like they offered him 500k.
So it's true
Who wouldn't pursue a top 3 best manager in the bigs?

Control
If he can't handel the FLORIDA MARLINS orgaization, then I don't think he can handel managing the Yankees.
I know he was a coach for them, but being the manager is differn't...
Torre Firing
The main ramification I see from his firing is that the Yanks may start coming back to the pack as far as payroll is concerned.
After all, Torre's strong suit was being able to manage high profile, high paid players. Well, he failed to get them to the WS for the last 7 years now.
And, when you add in Steinbrenner's declining health + low payroll teams making the post season, i.e., Colorado, Arizona, Cleveland, Florida, etc., I think the Yanks will start to take a new tack on how they assemble their team.
Of course, owners like Hicks will love this, because the Yanks won't necessarily be a threat to drive up the prices of FA's. Plus, they have some pretty good young players right now.
Anyways, my other thought about this situation has to do with Trey Hillman.
I see he signed with KC today. I had heard his name come up concerning the Yanks. I wonder if he was aware he might have had a chance with them.
