Around SBN: Dog Football! Which Breeds Are Best Suited For The Gridiron?

Saturday a.m. things

Game 3 tonight, and it will be interesting to see if the Rockies can bounce back and take this one against the BoSox.  If not, well, it will just be a matter of whether the Red Sox sweep or if the Rockies can take a game or two before Boston finishes them off.

Evan Grant looks at the four teams who haven't made the World Series.  The Rangers, of course, are one of them...

Jim Reeves has another love letter to Buck Showalter, with a column all about Buck and how, somehow, this postseason has shown Buck knows what he's talking about.

Whatever.

The condensed Reevo ...
"If Buck Showalter had his 'druthers [confirming what Showalter has known for a long time] he'd pin their ears back and go after it.  Showalter remains convinced about what Showalter has believed for a long time."

Amen, Reevo.  Amen.

Great article Reeves...
what insight! I wasn't aware that Buck was the only manager that knew pitching is the key and you have to have really good 1-2 starters to do well in the playoffs...I've never heard that theory before, Buck is a genius.

Yep
Who knew? Here I was thinking that the key to playoff success was having good pinch-hitters and a decent middle reliever, but apparently, the real key is two great starters! I feel so much smarter!

Not to mention that the Rangers might actually have a good #2 starter (Chris Young) if not for Buck, or that Buck wanted to get rid of Joaquin Benoit. A real great judge of pitching talent, that guy...

2nd paragraph
echoes my sentiments exactly.

Anybody can identify top pitching talent after they win 18 games or save 40.

Too bad Buck wanted Eaton rather than CY.
Otherwise, I might think Buck knows what Buck is talking about.

Evan's article
I have a hard time figuring out how he can predict the Rangers in the 2010 World Series and also saying the Rays don't have a chance until global warming turns NY and Boston into fishing holes.

I mean TB has much better top of the rotation starters - both in the big leagues and upper minors, and many more impact position players - both in the big leagues and upper minors.  So, how are we locks for the WS in 3 years, and they don't have a chance?

Rangers could pick up a FA or two.
Don't know if Gtant banks on that.

Also, I don't think of Colorado as a
perennial contender.  Even if the Rangers made it in 2010, I wouldn't list Colorado as an opponent.

My guess
He's saying they won't be finishing ahead of New York or Boston, even with their talent.

I'm not sure that there is anything in the world
that I am more admittedly biased against than anything involving Buck Showalter.
