The ultimate proof of the idiocy of the Elias Rankings
Okay, the Elias rankings have always been something of a joke.
But thanks to tdi1985 for pointing out in a comment on the diary on the rankings how ridiculous they really are.
Out of 70 players who got ranked in the 2B/SS/3B category, Joaquin Arias ranked #41. Barely outside of the top half.
And Arias has all of 12 major league plate appearances.
Bobby Crosby and Howie Kendrick are ranked #37 and #38.
Wilson Betemit, who posted a 101 OPS+ each of the past two seasons (and the rankings are based on the player's last two seasons), is ranked below Arias. So are Alex Cora, Alex Gordon, Josh Fields, and Asdrubal Cabrera.
As I mentioned in the diary, their rankings don't take into account park effects.
Here's what they look at for 2B/SS/3B:
And this half-ass, jacked up, ridiculous system that no one in their right mind would consider the best way to evaluate a player is what MLB uses for determining draft pick compensation for free agents.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.

How do the people
Wooo!
But seriously, I had to go to the mlb.com player search site to see if there was another Joaquin Arias or something. Alex Gordon was the name in particular that threw me off, that Arias would be above.
crazy crazy crazy!
Honestly though,
Gagne
Long after the World Series celebration dies down, that trade is going to blemish Theo's resume...
Yeah it will...
And many here would still be ok with signing him to a similar deal again this year so there are still some Gagne believers out there, I'm not sure if I'm one of them though.
