BGL....
True.
For me...I'd rather they just completely suck than have our boys play the bosox to their yankees. I'd take either scenario but a 60 win angels team is preferable.
Long Term?
lol.
Been thinking longterm for about 8 years now.
Boston? Yeah, I can think of 2 guys that helped them to win another WS - Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell. lol
If I were you, I'd be wishing teams like Anaheim, Yanks, or Boston would be interested in me.
FA
the yankees will never be interested in me as long as I have long hair/ facial hair and tattoos and refuse to cover or cut them to "look like a yankee"
meanwhile most of their players are scumbags...true yankees in other words.
it's baseball not the us army. nobody is making me dress, speak or act any way I don't want to.
be real though- who cares who is interested in me? I'm not a free agent, therefore my concern lies in making this organization better presently and in the future.
oh yeah boston just called- manny ramirez for c.j. wilson straight up...gimme a break!
Yes I throw the gyro. No, not the greek sandwhich burrito thingy.

I know you are not a FA. I like you on my team. I consider you a left handed Benoit.
But, when you become a FA, if the Yanks come a calling and offer you a deal of, say, 25 mil/4 yrs., and you need to cut your hair, shave your face, and laser off your tatoos, as opposed to a Rangers offer of 4 yrs/16 mil and they'll build you a tatoo parlor, which deal are you gonna take?
Correction
I think CJ is CJ. He never needed convincing that he could shut the door. Benoit was great last year, but he has been average or worse for longer than he has been lights out. Just as an amateur observer, Benoit has peaked and CJ is on the rise.
What do you think
I don't think Rowand is the answer, Crisp would be helpful just to get someone out there that can handle the field.
It's pretty easy to appreciate the minor league depth in the organization, at this point; but what would you like to see happen this off season?
At any rate, I'm glad we didn't win the Hunter auction.
Happy Thanksgiving, BGL and everyone.
jumbotrons
Amen Brother!!
Also....
I know it's a buisness and all...
I couldnt agree more.....
best scenario
OTOH, if they trade away several good players to get Tejeda or Cabrera than they've hurt themselves in the long run that way, too.
They arent trading you......
Rangers offer to Hunter 5yr 75 mil. There was an option for a sixth year.
75 million
really im fine with it, but hunter was not my ideal choice... and he was supposedly their #1.. so its kind of weak from that perspective.
i hope now that the primary big money guy is gone they really work to get something done with the remaining options...
lol
Yeah, we're shocked you got that much money because you are not worth it. I can't wait until Padilla plants a fastball at his chin.
Now that we've dodged Hunter ...
I would hope we make a serious bid
Hicks Dinner Scenario
Before the dinner, Hicks and his lawnboy (JD) map out their strategy.
Here's what we are preapred to offer. 5/75. But, let's not make the offer until we ask him what he's been offered by others.
Hunter and his agent says they have a 5/90 deal on the table.
Hicks and Daniels then proceed to tell Hunter that this team is 1 or 2 years away from contending.
LOL

Last hangout? What's this supposed to mean? That you are about to become the moderator of this forum? What a jerk.
As Opposed to.....
This makes them better next year
But in '10-'12, this is gonna be a Godsend for us.
Well....
If he just keeps covering his mistakes (GMJ) with more overspending (Hunter), I'm not sure what it does for us.

I would've been ambivalent about signing Hunter,
The number one thing that irks me is that it places a little more distance between the Rangers and Halos for the next year or two. Not a quantum leap, true. But, the Angels have improved their OF defense, the offense from their DH/OF rotation, and have some serious either trade ammo or future talent in the field in Wood, Kendrick, Figgins, Kotchman, Morales, Saunders, Adenhart, Weaver, Shields, Santana, and so on.
The trouble with being patient with the Rangers building plan is that over the same period the Angels will continue to build as well. Who's to say the Ranger's deep minor league system will produce the players necessary for the Rangers to catch the Angels by 2009 or 2010. Even if both Matthews and Hunter slip a bit by then, the Angels are probably in a revenue bracket that allows them to be able to get less bang for the buck out of some of their veterans (like Garret Anderson the past couple of years) and still have the financial wherewhithall to add impact players via FA.
I do agree that it isn't a bad thing the Rangers did not commit 5/75 to Hunter. But, it is a bad thing that Hunter went to the Angels. The GMJ signing probably made little to no improvement to the Angels. Hunter improves them for certain over the next couple of years, and who knows what pieces will be added to keep the Angels competitive beyond then. I doubt they'll resign Anderson after 2008. So, maybe, they'll get Manny to replace him. I'm certain they'll extend Vlad. They have the pieces to trade for Miggy or Bedard or Santana. I don't like the moves the Angels are making this offseason.
