Ugh

I thought that was the absolute most overrated show of all time. It seemed like it was baked in a factory for the express purpose of producing a bunch of annoying catch phrases and highlighting Chappelle's tired act. Of course, the guy's funny, but the fact that the show catapulted him to the level of Pryor or Dangerfield is still ridiculous to me.

what's your response on that other thread? Hmm Mr. language critic? You've got nothing. All you do is attack me, and I can only assume it's because you feel silly for being wrong so many times. Notice how I don't really say anything to you anymore? That's because I'm fine with moving on, but you've got a massive erection for sounding like a dumb guy I guess. I can have my opinion of Chappelle and it's just as valid as yours.

That's the most common usage, the Latin, so it's certainly not unreasonable to think that you just used it incorrectly, as opposed to Spanish.

Just an assumption.

If I'm wrong, that's fine. The point is, you don't need to assume that I'm wrong. If you do know Latin, then you surely know that many if not most languages are very similar and have the same roots and words.

I speak Spanish also, but almost languages are derived from Greek or Latin aren't they?

it´s creative and ever-changing. You can actually make up things in Spanish. Latin is dead, and everything you do to it is non-canon and useless.

And yes, as I said above, almost every language is a derivative of Latin or Greek. That only makes it worth learning, though, not worth speaking.

I personally loved the show...

I don't think I'm alone. Have you ever seen Dave do stand-up? His stuff is great, much better than Rodney but not on a level with the 2 greatest of all time - Carlin and Pryor, but he is easily in that next tier imo. Agree to disagree, won't be the first or last time I'm sure, right Brett?

Yes I have seen his stand-up and it is much much better than his show. I will disagree with you again though that he's better than Rodney. For me, Rodney and Rickles are two of the absolute greats with Carlin being close behind. Not a big Pryor guy myself, but I appreciate what he did like I appreciate Chappelle. As long as we're all laughing who cares right?

Santana theory

I wonder if the Red Sox are just playing up the Santana interest to force the Yankees' hand? Their thinking might be:

If you can get Santana without including Ellsbury or Buchholz, fine, get him. Otherwise by making a pretty serious offer, but refusing to include those very top chips you might force the Yankees to trump you by offering a package that strips them of some hot young players.

Obviously, Santana would help the Yankees, and he'd be a better fit there than in Fenway. But if the Yankees give up, say, Hughes and Cano and a prospect or two, they've created holes elsewhere and are spending tons of money longterm on Santana. The Red Sox could then turn around and make a deal for Haren or Bedard if they still feel they need pitching, and get a younger player under control longer for less money.

I just feel like the Red Sox have more bullets to use, a stronger rotation and fewer potential holes created in any trade situation. They are in a very strong position right now to explore these trades but still protect key chips.

I was wondering about this same scenario.

At this point, it seems like everyone's realizing the blue chips are staying off the table.

When you're playing chicken to bid on Daisuke the Red Sox can afford to talk themselves into $51m.

But when Buchholz and Hughes are the stakes, neither team will bet on the other's audacity.

And I'm sure Ed Smith grasps all this.

Leading me to think Santana probably gets traded for Lester, Coco and the magic beans. It's a little better package than the Yankees' package of Kennedy, Melky &c.

Which I guess this means the Yankees value their future with Joba and Hughes more than their present with one less of them and Santana.

Which is interesting, and probably a dumb decision.

my main revelation

for myself this morning was just how strong I think Boston's position is right now. They don't need more pitching, and they more young players at key positions than the Yankees right now, and an extra CFer to boot.

No matter what happens, they're ok. The Yankees meanwhile are feeling a lot of pressure to do something, not least of all from George jr.

I've read the A's have contacted the teams in the Santana talks about Haren being available. For fun if the A's were willing to talk to the Rangers about Haren what would you be willing to give up? I don't know myself.

Id rather offer that package

to the o's and try and get Bedard. The way I see it is if JD can't upgrade any position spots then he has to make a splash with a pitcher. Bedard is the number one choice in my eyes. One, Haren will never go to a division rival, two, Santana would never agree to a trade to Arlington, and three, Bedard will cost less then these two.
I think you could start the talks with Salty, then add in Elvis, and Volquez. This package wouldn't be enough for Santana, but probably enough for Bedard. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE ME SOME VOLQUEZ. I also LOVE ME SOME ELVIS and SALTY, but if that was enough to get a true ace in Bedard, then I'm all for it. Imagine a Starting five of
Bedard, Bmac, Hurley, Gabbard, Harrison.
God thinking about this team makes me sick. Bedard, BMAC, and Hurley is a great potential 1, 2, 3 punch if they live up to all the hype. I need Gabbard to prove all the haters wrong and that he isn't a fluke but a gem. I need Harrison to show why he was a top five prospect in the braves system. Basically this young rotation could be baseball's best if they all pan out.

I know you're asking where is Milly and Badzilla in the rotation. Well, Milly and Franky Frank go to the Mets for Milledge and Humber or Pelfrey. Badzilla goes to the highest bidder in my eyes.

You see right now, we are stacked with number three-five spot pitchers in our system. We need a true number one. Our offense does suck, but if we are trading prospects for ML ready talent, then I would want a number one starter.

I agree on the Mayberry part

But I'm not sure that it's all that fair to Oakland. They could easily come out of that with about what they came out of the Hudson deal with, and that sucked for them. Plus they do have a solid young catcher, so unlike most teams, getting a good catcher like Teagarden doesn't help fill a hole for them really.

I like Haren a lot, but ...

at this point, I don't think I trade our top 2 prospects for anybody. I'd package Hurley into the deal, but I think this team is better off hanging on to Teagarden. That might mean that we have to give up a couple of guys in the 6-10 range of our prospects, but right now, I hang on to Teagarden, Davis, and Kiker.
