are we going to get some Mitchell Report predictions out of you?

Well let me ask you this...
if there are a lot of big, unexpected names on the list, you much of a step back would it be for baseball?

Meh
I don't know.

I find the popular reaction pretty hypocritical, though.

There's more widespread use of PEDs in football than in baseball, and yet the NFL gets a pass, and there's no Mitchell Report for the NFL.

Basically, sports fans have made the decision that using PEDs is okay in football, but not in baseball.

by Adam J. Morris on Dec 12, 2007 7:55 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

It's becoming okay in baseball
I guess for all but sluggers? I dunno, haven't thought about it.

But I dunno, seems like more and more guys are getting tagged with roids/HGH in some fashion, and it's becoming less relevant.

Except for Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire..I guess if you're not liked, or maybe are a big time slugger..maybe there will be two standards, like say there is for applying the law to Democrat politicians versus regular people in the USA.

Why not make a run
at Adam Everett?

I made the diary last week asking about MY's defensive "shortcomings."

But if MY is really declining or is as bad as everyone says, then why not go get Everett?

It would allow you to A. Move Blalock to further load the farm/buld some outfield depth. Or B. Move Hank to first base.

Id be more than happy to have an infield of
C Salty
1b Hank
2b Kinsler
3b MY
ss Everett

Then if we would ever trade Laird for a decent outfielder, this team would suddenly look alright.

by Nichols22 on Dec 12, 2007 8:06 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Because
Everett is a bad offensive player. Absolutely horrible. I'd rather take a chance on McPherson.

by FirebatM3 on Dec 12, 2007 8:19 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Well which one do you want
One of the better offensive ss in the game (MY) or the best defensive ss in the game?

by Nichols22 on Dec 12, 2007 8:26 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Offensive
Especially when the alternative is Adam Everett

by FirebatM3 on Dec 12, 2007 8:56 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Everett would be great...
at short. We can't hit anyway. Why not save a couple of runs. And maybe Rudy could get Everett to stop trying to pull the ball and turn him into a decent hitter. The guy is the #1 SS according to The Fielding Bible. He makes tough plays look routine.

by kentbenfer on Dec 12, 2007 9:18 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

This guy
couldn't hit in the NL, in a big time hitter's park that's built for right handers.

Considering playing him would involve subtracting Hank, Ian or Chris Shelton, I doubt the defensive upgrade would counteract the severe offensive downgrade.

I was wondering before I came in this post how quick we'd get to the "lets pick up all those ex astros" posts.

Bunch of crap.

nookie
I'd like to see the rangers look at him.  Sure he's awful offensively but he's spectacular defensively

Non Tenders
Emil Brown could be interesting. I might even consider Chad Durbin but the most interesting is Adam Everett because of his defense. He ain't much of a hitter but the Rangers have improved more than one hitter in the past and if he did improve to about .260 or so, what a nice mid-season trade chip he could be. They probably need a couple of mid-season trades like they had last year. They did well with those.

Emil Brown
I would have been interested a year or two ago, but not much now.

I heard Mark Prior
is probably going to be non-tendered,

Anyone interested?

Prior
Definitely worth taking a chance on, and the Rangers have been rumored to have strong interest in him.

What do we do with him?
Put him in the pen? Find someone that'd take Padilla?

by FirebatM3 on Dec 12, 2007 9:18 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Prior
I'm not sure, but talent like that (when he's 100%) you can always find a place for.

Put him on the 60 day DL
and leave him there all season?

FWIW - the Rangers traded RHP Jeremiah Haar ...
to the Marlins for a 6-5, 185 lbs [send pie] A+ OF'er named J.T. Restko per BA's prospect blog - http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/R/J.T.-Restko.shtml

Broussard
Does mean he was tendered by the Mariners or they that they haven't released their non-tendereds?

Of the current non-tenders
Nobody except Prior interests me at all.  Brown is terrible for a corner outfielder, the 30 year old Durbin only has one season with an ERA under 4.90, Lane hasn't been good in years...pretty sorry crop at this point.

I think a good group of people on here already knew my name from fantasy baseball/football, newberg events and the like.  I'm still pretty amused that I did that.

kiko calero
I saw where the a's non-tendered him.  What is the story on him?  I know he used to be a reliable relief pitcher.  Is he hurt?

Calero
Of all the non-tenders, I think he is probably the best bet to help a team next year.  He was having shoulder problems this year and they finally shut him down at the end of August, but when healthy, he regularly puts up an ERA in the 3s with a K/IP.

I would take a shot at him.  Can't ever have enough bullpen depth.
