Rangers sign Fukumori

As expected, the Rangers have signed Kazuo Fukumori, reportedly to a 2 year, $3 million deal.

Someone is going to have to be removed from the roster to make room for Fukumori...

There has to be a mistake
Isn't it common knowledge that the Rangers can't seal the deal and no one ever wants to play for us?

....evidently he didn't ask te advice of Aki

Wow
Is a broken down outfielder and a broken down japanese import the big signs you are looking for?

by badradiorules on Dec 13, 2007 12:23 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

As opposed to what?
Overrated outfielders who'd be dramatically overpaid (Jones and Hunter) or an aging Japanese import who may or may not be good (Fukudome)?

This is a horrendous offseason for signing free agents, and JD got two guys who are cheap with legitimate upside potential.  That is what I'm looking for.

For the long term
you are looking for two year stopgaps who aren't going to really make you much better and won't be here when you are trying to be good?  Don't set the bar too high there buddy.

It's next offseason and the following one, when everyone says we are just going to go pluck 2-3 major impact players off the FA tree when you'll see how hard a time we will have signing free agents.  There will probably be other teams involved if they are that good, and the other team/s involved will likely have more to offer on top of the money.

No
the plan is to allow your own talent to develop and fill the holes in with legitimate FAs when needed. Not many players are like Fukudome, when we give the biggest contract, they will sign.

Really?
The way I see the "wait till 2010" theory actually working, we are going to need 2-3 impact FAs.  Probably better than Hunter or Fukudome.  There are probably going to be other teams that will want that player as well.  I just don't see how we are going to get that done.  Are we really in a position to money whip three guys into coming to a last place team all in one or two offseasons?  You saw the Zito, Hunter, GMJ contracts right.  You may be right, but I just think its going to be a lot harder than most people think.  I mean we went into this offseason with 4-5 offensive holes to fill and it appears we aren't going to fill one with a long-term solution.

I like the Fukumori signing
He is supposedly a very crafty pitcher with the ability to spot a number of pitches.  I think he will be very effective, especially in his first year in the league, and should be able to be our 7th inning guy, and maybe our 8th, should we deal one of our elite relievers for OF help.

First Monday
Well, it looks like after the Bradley and Broussard deals to go along with the Fuki deal, I pretty much expect Junior to re-sign Sosa as the DH and make a play for Prior.

Bargain basement shopping at it's best.

How totally pathetic.

p.s.  I guess we can now close the book on the SD trade:

Chris Yound and Adrian Gonzalez for NOTHING.

Nice signing
especially in light of the Aki situation, but the Rangers bullpen will probably be worse than last years.

Wasn't Gorneault DFAed....
for Broussard?

So, with the non-tendering of Otsuka, we don't necessarily need to drop someone from the 40....

Req
