Every time I see that mobile phone commercial that involves the guy lifting weights, who has the new "Fall Out Boy" single on his phone that "gets me pumped," I feel old and out of touch, since I have no idea who or what "Fall Out Boy" is.

Another thing that makes me feel old and out of touch...when several Rangers are asked who their first celebrity crush is, Brandon McCarthy lists Britney Spears.

Evan Grant says Ron Washington was displeased with Robinson Tejeda's outing this afternoon, and in particular his control problems. What's more troubling is Tejeda's comment that he doesn't know what the problem today was...

A Robinson Tejeda who can't find the strike zone would create a big problem for the Ranger rotation at the start of the season...

There's a blog entry in the S-T Rangers blog, suggesting that Bruce Chen may be the favorite for the 5th starter spot, because of the ability the Rangers have to option Josh Rupe and Kam Loe to the minors. That dovetails with my speculation this morning, and again, I think there's a significant difference between Chen -- who was a very good starter for the Orioles just a couple of years ago -- and someone like Pedro Astacio, who I've railed about in the past.

Evan Grant says that either Marlon Byrd or Jason Botts will make the 25 man roster, but not both (barring some major collapse by Sammy Sosa or Nelson Cruz). I still tend to believe that Byrd is most likely going to make the team, with Botts traded or to AAA, but a lot of this would seem to depend on whether the Rangers trust Nelson Cruz to play centerfield.

If Cruz can play center, then against lefties, Kenny Lofton and the Cat will sit, with Brad Wilkerson, Nelson Cruz, and Sammy Sosa in the outfield, and Botts at DH. Against righthanders, Cat and Lofton will be in the lineup, with two of the other four outfield/DH types taking the other two slots. Jerry Hairston, Jr., provides an insurance policy for centerfield, as well.

Actually their last album was a classic

No kidding. A rock classic.

I dont think they'll ever before or again reach anywhere near there, though. I cant remember the last band that managed to string even two good albums together.

Does Tejeda have any options left?

Let's assume that Tejeda can't figure out his control problems before camp breaks. Is it possible that he gets sent down with Chen and Wright making the rotation?

Instead

let's assume that Washington, Laird, etc. get all over Tejeda's ass and he stops screwing around and pitches with more control. It's a little early, if he does this the next two or three starts in a row, then I'll be willing to see a trend.

Lineup vs. lefthanders

If we keep Byrd, and thus have to play him against lefthanders, our lineup vs. lefthanders will be horrible. Given that Cruz, Hairston and Wilkerson can all play some CF, I see zero reason to keep Byrd on this roster over Botts.

It won't be good, but the best lineup we can send out vs. lefthanders would be:

Kinsler, 2B
Wilkerson, LF
Young, SS
Teixeira, 1B
Sosa, RF
Cruz, CF
Botts, DH
Blalock, 3B
Laird, C

That's not a very good defensive OF, but that's not as a big of a problem as a lineup with Byrd in it would be.

Wouldn't be surprising

if one of Tejeda or McCarthy wasn't very good this year. The joy of breaking in 3 pitchers who have never pitched a full season before.

Which is why I would do Lieber for Wilkerson.

I wouldn't make that trade, because our offense is bad enough already.

The only redeeming thing about that band is that they're named after the superhero from "the Simpsons".

Fall Out Boy

was not the hero, he was the sidekick. Radioactive Man was the hero. You can tell because in the movie adaptation of the comic book, Radioactive Man is played by Ranier Wolfcastle and Fall Out Boy is played by Milhouse.

Actually, you can tell for many other reasons besides that, but definite proof, if definitive proof were needed, of Fall Out Boy's pussitude... he was played by Milhouse.

it depends on what your definition of "super hero" is. He's basically Robin.
