Anyone hear/see the end of that Cubs game
Brutal.

I'll just repost my earlier comment in case someone's curious:

Bottom of the ninth, one out, down 2-1 to the Cubs, Cedeno at 1st, Jones at the plate. Jones takes ball four, but Cedeno takes off for second and doesn't look at the plate. Cards catcher throws to second, Cedeno slides head first into second but he goes too far and Eckstein tags him for being off the bag. Instead of runners on 1st and 2nd with one out, they have a runner at first with two.

Well Mr. Burns had done it. The power plant had won it. With Roger Clemens clucking all the while.

by WyoRanger on Apr 20, 2007 6:24 PM CDT reply actions

Wait
Wouldn't the runner at first get to safely advance to second once the BB happens?

Why is it relevant whether he was running or not?

by hightowersmith on Apr 20, 2007 6:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Burnt beat me to it
Once he has touched the base, he's legally at second.  If he leaves it, he is vulnerable to being tagged out (until) the ball is returned to the pitching mound.
Time does funny things. The worst of which is, it keeps moving when you don't.

You'll note
I took the time to actually set out the lineup. Yes, I wasted precious time in which someone could beat me to the punch, but in case someone's too important to take the time to actually click on the link, I've provided them the vital information.

Looks like Kinsler batting seventh is now (somewhat) permanent.

That interview wasnt' live and Wash explained what he meant, but it still sounded wierd to hear that on TV.

McCarthy
Those last two pitches to Stewart were both strikes.

Strike zone: knees to letters, not knees to belt

Weird
On the radio they just mentioned that every lineup listed Wilk, not Cruz. That might indicate a health issue, I would think.

Wilkerson
According to the DMN blog, he was a late scratch because his knee locked up, but that the Rangers aren't that concerned about it.

All I got is the radio
Nadel just expressed surprise to see Cruz in the line-up just now - every line-up he saw leading up to game-time had Wilk in it instead.  just fyi

Where did I say that a bloop ...

That's right Tom and Josh.
Our pitcher is in the midst of a meltdown, so naturally the A's are going to give us an out by bunting.  That would be just brilliant.

by FirebatM3 on Apr 20, 2007 8:07 PM CDT reply actions

ive discovered their plan
the a's always start slow, and then have a great 2nd half to win the al west or get close to doing so.

the rangers always start off decently, are in first in june, then are terrible after that to end in 3rd.

by intentionally losing to the a's, they hope to get them of to a good start and have them collapse, while the rangers have the good 2nd half.

genius.

also, gotta love those 45 second innings of rangers offense.  im getting used to them.

Seriously
He could teach them "The Stare".  Intensity.  Pride/Shame in losing.  He can be the bad cop.  Washington can be the good cop.

I know most of you disagree, but he's the best free-agent signing this team ever had.  Intangibles can't be measured, but they exist.  As good as Mike Young and Mark Teixeira [usually] are, they just don't have that Will Clark variable.

I access this site though the "Internet".

by Dustin on Apr 20, 2007 8:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Intangibles?
Are those like a new a new type of steroid or something? If so, then I agree, this team need some intangibles and quick.

by jcir454 on Apr 20, 2007 8:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Nope
Although I'm sure those teams had some steroids around, so did their opponents.  I know you're only kidding, but...

They need players who hate to lose.  HATE to lose.  Now maybe I'm wrong about them and they just don't show it that well, but I just don't think there's a good mix on this team.

It's like they're fragile or something.  In 2004 they always bounced back from losses.  They played with crispness and energy.  Where is that?  So far, they don't look any different than last year when they were supposedly demoralized by the evil Buck Showalter.

I don't know.  I'm just frustrated with how flat they look.  I'd like to see someone go up to the plate looking like they expect to get a hit.  Will Clark did that.  If there were men on, you could tell Gonzalez smelled blood.  P. Rodriguez could take over baseball games.  They had their Palmeiros and Zeiles, too, sure, and they showed no emotion.

I dont' know.  Whatever.

Should just leave Chen out there to take his lumps.

Feldman pitched quite a bit last night, and also pitched the night before. 4 innings left to get thru.

We might need a long man tomorrow, even if Loe does all right.  Probably not going to get more than 5 from him.

Could be wrong
But I think Feldman's days are numbered. Tonight he may be tired etc but he can't get his best stuff called a strike.  Not good.
Time does funny things. The worst of which is, it keeps moving when you don't.

Speaking on lonestarball
On Baseball Prospectus chat with Marc Normandin today. I asked the question as lonestarballfan...

http://www.baseballprospectus.com/chat/chat.php?chatId=290

lonestarballfan (Big D,Texas): Do you see hurler Eric Hurley at AAA Oklahoma before the break?

Marc Normandin: He's young, so there's really no reason to rush him yet. He could be ready for that level by then, but if he isn't immediately sent there, it's not a big deal, really.

Impatient Texas fans may disagree, which is understandable.

also there was a few other questions about Blalock and Tex.

MarinerDan (SF, CA): Hank Blalock: Will he rebound or was he an overrated mediocrity to begin with?

Marc Normandin: Overrated mediocrity. Blalock is the victim of one of the few really harsh profiles I've done so far. Well, I think it's harsh. Here's my conclusion from the profile:

One thing to take into consideration is that he was never really as good as many thought him to be. There is nothing in his minor league numbers that can boast anything exceptional--other than his relative youth--as they are all brought back down to earth by park factors. In fact, except for the 2004 season, his power production seems to be greatly enhanced by his home park at basically every stop. It's entirely possible that Blalock has been severely overrated from the start, and that his fall isn't as far as we initially imagined. Considering that a great deal of the change seems to be in the batted-ball type, it's possible that with the proper adjustments Blalock could tweak his swing and bring his numbers back to respectability.

Masked Terror (Parts Unknown): What about Teixeira, by the way? Is he never going to hit 40 HRs again? When do I have license to start panicking?

Marc Normandin: I still have faith in Teix. I'm still somewhat shocked the Rangers re-signed Young and not Teixeira.

We should have never got rid of Chris Young

Hurley gets traded
I'm seriously done with this team. I seriously might just go join the NL west team with CY and Agon.

sammy has to be more careful with those hops
a few too many hops on pitches not close to homeruns.

at least he had a good swing and hit the ball hard though.

Impressive
I wish this team had that kind of heart.

silver lining
If you don't count the second inning, the Rangers are winning 3-2. Also, the Rangers and the A's each have 8 hits. Also, if you don't count the 10 walks issued to the A's by Rangers pitching, the Rangers have 1 more bases on balls than the A's.

Absolute
god awful pen management. 33 pitches. You don't want your 7th inning guy having thrown 33 pitches.

We were going to lose in the 2nd inning, I don't see why McCarthy or Chen or Feldman or Mahay were taken out.

by FirebatM3 on Apr 20, 2007 9:47 PM CDT reply actions

well
chen threw over 80 pitches.

feldman threw a lot of pitches after throwing a ton yesterday.

i wish they could have gone more innings, but yeah.. they threw plenty.

mahay probably could have gone longer though.

All week Ive heard.....
This is the first home run of the season for x or y. This breaks this record or that record for the opposing team! We've allowed for other teams to excel where they normally havent! One of the worst starts Ive EVER seen for the freakin' Rangers.
