4/23/07 game day thread

No lineup yet, but I'm tired of waiting for it to go up...

I'm guessing Wilkerson is back in the lineup, with Sammy or Cruz sitting today...

Kevin Millwood v. Cha Baek...

Go Rangers...

Update [2007-4-23 19:39:2 by Adam J. Morris]: -- Lineup up, still no Wilkerson...

Actually a little earlier
I'd say the third or fourth.  2nd time through the order.  If he's arranged for transport (I advised him to do so), it could be even earlier.

There are many great options on this board:

o How dumb it was to walk Hank to get to Kinlser, Hargrove. You idiot.

o How absurd it was to bring in Feldman, Wash. You idiot.

But I'm afraid your rally turtle may have a negative effect:

They really need
to give Stewart more games until Laird stops sucking so much.  Batting less than .100 isn't going to get it done.  Give Stewart every other game until Laird stops being a steaming pile of shit.

Well,
playing him almost every day, and giving him maybe one day off a week, don't seem to be helping.  Eventually, time gets most people out of most funks.  There's just no reason to put up with his suckitude 5-6 games a week until he does.

yeah
i don't think fewer ab's will help a hitting problem.... you either let them work through it, or you dont.
The catcher not hitting is the least of the problems with the rangers. The middle of the order not hitting is a much larger issue imo

I don't believe
there is any evidence to suggest that "hitting your way" out of a slump is any more effective than being on the bench and hitting out of a cage.

I do think there is evidence to suggest that Gerald Laird's performance is hurting the team.

"The very fundamental issue is, they (Bush Admin) don't know where the hell they're going," --Ret Marine Gen. John "Jack" Sheehan after declining "War Czar" job

by DJCahill on Apr 24, 2007 11:19 AM CDT up reply actions

yes
it is hurting.

playing stewart who may be a slight defensive downgrade can't hurt anymore.  at least let them switch every other game...or let stewart catch the vetaran pitchers and have laird catch loe/tejeda/mccarthy.  stewart won't bat worse than .092 or whatever laird is hitting.  there are pitchers in the NL that are batting better than that.

as for michael young and cat...they have a track record and you can only wait for them to get on track.

tex is getting better, he's up to  .260.  he just needs to start hitting bombs.

Al Gore 2008 http://www.myspace.com/igotsculture

by gossamer on Apr 24, 2007 11:25 AM CDT up reply actions

hurting the team
there's not that much evidence to support that laird's replacement would actually be able to produce well enough to help the team in a meaningful way.

as stated before, his performance alone probably isn't costing us games.  while i haven't exactly outlined a point on why you should stick with laird, i can't see the argument for changing him other than, "what we have isn't working now."  seems as though lots of things aren't really working and we are sticking by them in this lineup.

I'm more concerned about a hitter who's batting
180 points off what we expect from him than someone that's batting 150 points off what we expect from him.

Not me......
MY has a proven track record.  Laird does not.  I feel very comfortable that MY will work his way out of this.  I don't have much confidence in Laird.  Laird will hit better, but how much better I don't know.  Maybe the guy is really a .220 hitter and not the .270 hitter we all thought he was.

Laird is the one that's 180 points off
what we predicted in the preseason.

Young is about 150 points short.
