Drew Davidson with injury updates

Davidson says that Akinori Otsuka could be available as soon as Thursday. Since we're now within four weeks of the trade deadlines you'd at least like for these guys to be healthy.

Also, Vicente Padilla is expected to make a start in Frisco next Thursday.

Trade Deadline

I think the dumbest thing the Rangers could do is trade ANY of their bullpen pitchers. If we really want to turn in to a legitimate team, that's where we need to start. We have to keep our strongest pieces. Otsuka and Gagne are two of our best players and by far best pitchers on the staff. I am all up for trading Tex, Blalock, and Wilkerson. I mean, we've been playing better since Tex and Blalock went on the DL. But if the Rangers trade off Otsuka or Gagne, I might write the Rangers off forever.

The Rangers bullpen would still have the potential to be above average without Gagne or Otsuka. There is some talent there, but also, Otsuka is entering his decline years, and Gagne remains an injury risk. "Better to trade a player a year too early than a year too late."

The Rangers could keep the bullpen

intact and probably play around .500 ball next if we don't tear this thing down. If we do trade some pieces away and get some prospects we could be much better in a couple of years. I'd rather have to chance to be good instead of maintaining status quo and accepting .500.

Yeah

Apparently they're planning on bringing him right back off, so he'd have about two weeks of pitching at the deadline, but it's not good for his value, especially since he's been so bad recently.

I had someone tell me today that Lidge is going to be on the market, so that adds competition. But I don't know that he'd have Gagne's value if someone were actually looking for a closer. If they want a setup guy, yeah maybe.
