FJM on Jay Mohr

I hate Jay Mohr.  Like, I Eric Byrnes hate him.

So I really enjoyed this.

wow...
I never had much of an opinion of Mohr, but that was some pretty aweful commentary.  Why on earth would he feel compelled to make a comment about Jerry Seinfeld?

That being said, Mohr did have a pretty funny bit about bars of bath soap, going on about how it is magical, proceeding to describe how everyone in your family rubs it all up on themselves, and then you go to use it, so you had better hope it is magical.  Incredibly unfunny the way I just delivered it, but it was good bit.

Rumor has it...
that MJH is actually very, very funny.  He just refuses to commit anything to writing because he doesn't want Mencia to steal it and make it unfunny.

leary was good too
at stealing jokes that is.

good article, but there is a more pressing issue
If the rangers sign byrnes, will you shut down LSB?

by DShep on Aug 2, 2007 7:59 PM CDT reply actions

I've got your back
I'd be required to Tivo every game and fast forward through all of his at bats. Also, I'd break into his house and cut his hair.
But that river of tears has dried for all of us.

Teixeira
Just hit a 2-run shot to tie it up against Houston.  That's his second.  Braves fans have gotta be loving  this trade.
Obviously you're not a golfer.

by chief on Aug 2, 2007 8:02 PM CDT reply actions

Already.....
had a double and a run scored as well.  I miss him already.

by bdavison94 on Aug 2, 2007 8:04 PM CDT up reply actions

Alright
After Monday no more Teixeira updates. Who cares.

by sprite on Aug 2, 2007 8:08 PM CDT up reply actions

ill take a wild guess: a lot of ranger fans
come on, the guy was the best hitter on the team for four+ years and left with some controversy.

its not exactly shameful to want to know what the guy does.

im a little bit bitter with him right now but if the braves make the playoffs ill probably be rooting for them.

by DShep on Aug 2, 2007 8:14 PM CDT up reply actions

No, its not shameful
but these days i tend to root for the jersey and try to keep the personal side out of,Like the CY trade, it was terrible, as we all know, but what's the point of rescending in our chairs every fifth day and looking at his box score? The only thing that will happen is a bunch of people sulking again and again. Tex will outperform Salt this year and i guarantee some fans will label it a bust. You can't compare the two,If it was a Steve Nash situation where he wanted to stay and he still gets traded/not payed, wanted to be here and make the necessary sacrafices to allow the TEAM to win and then gets so wronged by his organization, i can understand but he never wanted to stay here. Give credit to MY he wanted to stay but i guarantee that he wouldn't have signed if he knew Tex was a goner. Therfore i don't care what he does.

by sprite on Aug 2, 2007 8:49 PM CDT up reply actions

I like.....
watching good baseball and good baseball players no matter who they play for.  I also have a wager on the astros and rangers for this season.  So I find this game interesting on a couple of levels.

Do I miss Tex?  Heck yeah.  If you don't you weren't a Ranger fan.  I won't be watching Braves games just to watch Tex though.  It won't be long and he'll be no different to me than any other former Ranger.

by bdavison94 on Aug 2, 2007 9:01 PM CDT up reply actions

Tex
Except for his monster year two years ago, he was a little above average MLB first baseman.

His breakout in ATL demonstrates that he has been going through the motions most of this season in Texas.

We got five players, one of which is a major league player who will probably not be a tremendous drop off from Tex. WHAT a STEAL!

He was never going to resign w/ The Rangers.

He's not worth crying over(not that I am implying that anyone here is.)

Damn
Did Jay Mohr actually write that column? More pressing, was he actually paid to write that column?  How can you have a career as a comic, without, oh don't know, being funny?
But that river of tears has dried for all of us.

by trza on Aug 2, 2007 9:20 PM CDT reply actions

mohr
random: some game company hired him to tell jokes in a press coference at a videogame event a couple of months ago and he got boo'd off the stage.

even though im a videogame fan, i dont know if its worse that he had to do a game press conference to get money or that he got boo'd doing it...

i dont think his stock is exactly on the rise.

by DShep on Aug 2, 2007 9:26 PM CDT up reply actions

ouch
Damn, that smarts.

Remembering back, he was actually pretty good in Jerry McGuire. Of course, he was cast in the role of "annoying asshole" so maybe that's why.

But that river of tears has dried for all of us.

He used to write for SI online
Horrible. I read two of his columns, and after the second, wondered what I was doing. But I'm glad he's writing again and has been brought to FJM's attention. He wrote a column a while back about "true Yankees." Hilarious. The guys he thought should not be Yankees and the guys who should replace them included:
Sheffield - Juan Pierre
Tony Womack - McHustlegrit (a push)
A-Rod - Erik Hinske

And it goes on like that. I just found it, so go nuts.

Well Mr. Burns had done it. The power plant had won it. With Roger Clemens clucking all the while.

Thank You
The FJM was good, but that article just made my day.

Erik Hinske instead of A-Rod?

Hilarious.

I have often thought
that it is a total crime if Jay Mohr's total earnings as a "celebrity" and "comedian" have exceeded $1.  He is not funny, and I think it is a slap to the face of actual "funny comedians" that struggle tp make it in the biz that this horse dong keeps getting gig after gig after gig even though he couldn't make a clown laugh at a nitrous oxide convention.
I like hamburgers.

This is about the 5th FJM article posted
and they are pretty consistently worthless.  I can't imagine reading that blog daily.

You're entitled to your opinion
It's wrong, but at least you can call it your own.
Well Mr. Burns had done it. The power plant had won it. With Roger Clemens clucking all the while.

Because
boring deconstructions of poorly written original articles is fascinating reading.

FJM
I'm kind of "meh" on them. Sometimes they can be pretty funny, but their schtick is a tad played. One thing that I thought was pretty pathetic was their reaction when Eckstein won WS MVP. I figured they would be pretty good-natured about it and take it as an opportunity to poke fun at themselves. But, they actually were very pissy and defensive. It was unbecoming and a little pathetic. Like they can dish it but they can't take it.
But that river of tears has dried for all of us.

by trza on Aug 3, 2007 9:46 AM CDT up reply actions

Yeah,
I could also live without their profanity laced tirades when the source material is just some bad throwaway commentating.  All in all, I just think its a consistently weak read.

by DJCahill on Aug 3, 2007 9:53 AM CDT up reply actions

Could Morgan actually be fired someday?
This article doesn't really provide any evidence it will happen, but it did make me think:  If Joe Morgan actually got fired, what would FJM do?

Maybe...
...the same thing fireronzook.com did when Ron Zook got fired from coaching football at Florida. Shut down... well, that site is still up but they shut down the online store and haven't updated it since December 2004.

FJM articles
are just about the only things that make me laugh out loud, other than a guy getting hit in the nuts with any type of object.  I'm not a daily reader, but I find myself giggling uncontrollably.
I like hamburgers.

by Bob Loblaw on Aug 3, 2007 12:38 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed
The schtick is definitely played out, and they rely way too much on the BP uberstats (WARP, VORP)... but god damn, I just can't keep myself from falling over laughing reading their stuff.  If Jay Mohr wrote like they did, he'd deserve his SI column.

Plus, they're mostly right about stuff, if a bit inflexible in their way.  Which makes it a guilty pleasure I can feel good about.  They're one of my regular humor sites, right there with Penny Arcade.
