Some things I'm throwing out there for you to peruse...
D-Rays Bay has some interesting commentary on Scott Boras's recent comments regarding his client, Carlos Pena. Those who think he's going to be a nice, cheap first base option next season...think again...
Joe Sheehan writes on how Ned Yost's refusal to use his closer in a non-save situation contributed to the Brew Crew's loss last night.
Sean McAdam has a column up called "Shades of 1978?", suggesting that the Red Sox are repeating history with a second-half collapse to allow the Yankees to win the division.
Of course, that ignores one big difference...there was no wild card in 1978. Since the BoSox will be in the playoffs whether they finish ahead of the Yankees or not, it isn't quite such a big deal...
Bryan Smith is doing a chat at BP, with just one Ranger item I saw (going with Hurley over Adenhart)...
You remember the whole "the Rangers should call up Eric Hurley, since the Astros called up Troy Patton" brouhaha a month or so ago? Well, Patton has been shut down for the season:
"There's fluid on my biceps tendon, and that's what's causing discomfort throwing," Patton said. "I'm going to come back here Nov. 1 and start a rehab program and get back in shape."
Patton, called up from Class AAA Round Rock on Aug. 24, went 0-2 with a 3.55 ERA in three games, including two starts.
"It's good to know that what we thought was going on was going on," Patton said. "It kind of puts my mind at ease a little bit. They said it was most likely because of the workload."
Yeah, that sure worked out well for the Astros, and for Patton...
Our friend John Barten has this week's BTB Awards up...
And our friend Poochie advocates releasing Vicente Padilla...

Speaking of links...
Yep, they linked to Adam's story and whined about it as only Oakland fans can do.

Lot of smoke about headcase Padilla
I certainly wouldn't want to have a teammate who is a beanballer like Vincente, especially since they would be throwing at me. It'd be one thing if he was pitching well, but a poor pitching beanballer isn't a good combination.

Even better
Can we pay you to go away? Better yet I would pay, as would countless others, to see you lineup against Padilla! You wouldn't be man enough to do it though. Hmm come to think of it I wonder if Padilla can write... eh what's the difference your stuff is tripe anyway. He could ramble about Nicaraguan politics in Spanish and do a better job.

About next years draft:
The top 5 guys are pretty good, but the middle of the first round is thin.
When talking about pitchers who will break out next year:
Brandon McCarthy, if healthy, will have a good year
