Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

A bunch of stuff

Just some things to share...

The Rangers tentative 2008 home schedule is up...

Something called Project Prospect has their top 5 Rangers prospects up, along with little writeups on each.

Nate Silver has an article up, going through the biggest collapses in baseball history, in terms of greatest percentage likelihood of making the playoffs without actually making it.  I don't know if I explained that well.  But it is a neat piece, and in the BP free section, so...

Chris Young, since coming off the disabled list in early August:  0-5, 48 1/3 IP, 6.33 ERA.  The Pads have won only 2 of the 9 starts he's made since coming off the d.l.  Before going on the d.l., he had a 1.08 ERA in his previous 15 starts.

You know what is weird about Chris Young's 2007 season?  Young has 11 fewer innings than last year, has allowed 1 fewer walk, and struck out 4 fewer batters.  And he has about the same FB% as last year.  But Young has allowed only 9 homers this year, after allowing 28 homers last year.

Guess what individual offensive stat a plurality of major league players said is the most important?  Hint...the Sammy Sosa supporters will agree...

Jim Callis will a chat session up, and he luvs him some Omar Poveda...also says two of the bottom 5 farm systems in baseball are in the A.L. West...

The umpires association won't challenge the Mike Winters suspension, which surprises me, and also tells me that Bradley and Meacham's story apparently has a lot of truth to it.

The Ian Kinsler chat transcript is up.

And T.R. Sullivan runs down "ten outrageous moments in Rangers history."

Something Called Project Prospect
Thanks for the link Adam. We really appreciate it.

Maybe our debut podcast can provide some more background on what we do. The introduction you gave made us sound like Sasquatch's cousin or something :).

Here's a link to that podcast in case anyone is interested:

"While control is not yet his forte ..."
Beaven had, what, 4 walks in 73 IP as a HS senior?

Command.
Good call. It looks like we misinterpreted that line from MLB's scouting report. I'll make a correction.

Project Prospect
Please yall im begging some of yall to come out to project prospect.  Im basically the only rangers fan there to defend our players.  Its a very clean forum, but very informational, Adam Loberstein and Adam Foster, (thats who AF just for your information) the two founders, spend an amazing amount of time working on this site.  Their new podcasts are really cool and their forums just got put in just over a month ago.

PEASE COME AND HELP ME DEFEND OUR TEAM!

Kinsler
Conducted his chat really well.  My take on his mindset just went up a notch, a large notch.

hey guys any chance
We can get Jason Bay from Pittsburgh in the offseason. Pittsburgh seems like they will trade him and the Rangers would be a nice fit. Young power hitting corner outfielder that can play all 3 outfield spots. I think a Murphy/Byrd center platoon for 08 is good. I am afraid Torii is treating us like Roger Clemens does. Builds offers up from other teams he already baited the Twins in a fourth year and I wont be surprised if he gets 4/75 or 5/90 with bonuses.

"No, Donny, these men are nihilists, there's nothing to be afraid of."
