Ben Broussard gets a one year deal
The Rangers have agreed with Ben Broussard on a one year contract. Evan Grant says it is a $3.85 million base, with another $150K in incentives possible based on plate appearances.
Broussard made $3.55 million last year with the M's, so this is probably a little less than he could have gotten in arbitration, although there may have been an understanding reached between the Rangers and Broussard prior to them offering him arbitration about what the parameters of a deal would be.

Davis will be the next 1st baseman unless Teagarden beats him to the bigs and forces Salty to 1st base and Davis to the Corner OF. Which may be the best case scenario. It sux to talk about 2009, but that's what we're forced to do:
C Teagarden
1B Salty
2B Kinsler
3B Blalock
SS Andrus ?????
LF Davis
CF Young ????? (Could be the best for the club)
RF Hamilton
DH Cat / Botts
Rotation: Millwood, Padilla, McCarthy, Gabbard, Hurleya and one of: Mendoza, Galarraga, Harrison, etc
Pen: Closer Diamond????, Set Up - Wilson and Benoit. Francisco, Rheinecker, Littleton and Loe.
Don't laugh at my predictions, just day-dreaming about 09', b/c that might be all we can do unless some guys have some CAREER years.......

Davis
No way Michael Young would be a better defensive CF'er than Hamilton.

did you even look at his stats?
not too shabby, especially as a righty in detroit.

Broussard
What kind of incentive is a 4 percent bonus?

Shelton
There's been several all-star infielders move to the outfield w/ success. Maybe leave Hamilton in CF, Young in LF and Davis in RF?
As far as Salty behind the plate, Teagarden is the better defensive catcher!!!!!! And if Salty can hit, there should be no problem keeping both and making him the 1B.
On the real, I really doubt this is how things pan out, again, just daydreaming.........

there is a [reply to this] button under each post
i didnt say shelton was great last year, obviously he wasnt in the majors. if he had torn up the league for 3 consecutive years he wouldnt have been free.
ben "lightyears ahead" broussard didnt do anything last year either, besides be a well below average 1b in platoon time.
shelton career ops in majors: .825
broussard career ops in majors: .786
even if you say sample size and say they have been roughly the same, shelton is also much cheaper, under club control much longer, younger, and doesnt need to be platooned.
you can have whatever opinion you want, but dont try to say what im saying is somehow ridiculuos without making an actual argument.

ok
As for stats, Broussard has 2000 career AB's to Shelton's 800. He's 4 years older, so that's about 300 ab's per season. But, there's probably a reason that he has stuck around longer? He's considered decent by the MLB execs.
As for being cheaper, that means nothing to me, as Hicks is saving 8 million over Broussard from Tex as it is. We're not a small market team!
