Sullivan on Broussard

I was out for most of the day and didn't get to post on this piece from mid-morning, but if you haven't taken a look at it yet, it's an interesting look at Ben Broussard. He is definitely not a fan of bench time.

Broussard
Is it normal for a player to talk to the general manager complaining about playing time?

by meatbonelefty on Jan 9, 2008 6:06 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Well
that's probably because he knew talking to Hardgrove was pointless because he had no room for him to start. Your only move then to get more playing time would be to go to the GM and ask to be traded if at all possible.

It was a good read
It's nice to see someone that's really happy to be in Texas. Sure, I'm guessing the other players are cool with it, but for someone to say this is unusual:

"The Mariners trading me to Texas was one of the classiest things I've ever seen in baseball," Broussard said. "They could have traded me somewhere else. They could have traded me to a National League team, where I would have been a bench player, a role player or a pinch-hitter.

"But they traded me to Texas, even though it was within the division, we play 19 times a year and I'll be out there trying to do everything I can to beat them. It was a classy move on their part."

Never mind
I think Shroomer's idea is the best (previous post). Use Murphy's option and keep everyone for a while to see if Cruz or Botts can get it figured out.

That won't work
the option won't remove them from the 40-man, just the 25.

Yeah, they traded you to one of the crappiest teams in baseball that they feel no threat from.

I just wish LBrooks would go away and stay away. Atleast Sharky brings something to the table.

I keep hearing that...
Sharky brings "something". I'm not really sure what that is though. He certainly doesn't add anything to the baseball/Rangers or political threads.

Perhaps it is in the NFL/Cowboys threads. I rarely read those because the Cowboys don't interest me and it seems like half the posts are from him anyway. Either way, I have yet to see anything he has posted that could not be dismissed immediately.

And the mariners...
are in better shape? They had that very lucky run for a while until cratering, but, overall, they aren't much, if any better.

that registers pretty high on the ..
"Sharkometer" .I'm still waiting for you to just say ONE good thing about the Rangers. I admit I bitch a lot but at least I give credit where it's due. Broussard I bet will flourish here as a result of playing for his boyhood favorite team
and close to his family. And the Mariners did do the right thing by him, so let it be grandpa bonenuts.

Hey guys...
... I'm a first time poster here at LSB, so I just wanted to toss off a quick "howdy" to everybody.

Now, about Broussard: it's nice to see a guy that actually wants to play for us for a change - you gotta appreciate the attitude. But I hate to think what he'll say if he's still here when Chris Davis arrives and displaces him at 1st base in a year or so.

Welcome...
Broussard knows he is just a stop gap here. What he wants is a chance to start for a full year and put up really good #'s. Then he would get a chance at a regular job, whether it is with the Rangers or not. I just don't know if he is better than a platoon player.

Davis
is not a lock for 1B, he might stay at 3B or end up in RF.  I am hoping that by 2009 another option has been found for 1B is Davis isn't there.  Broussard is ok but I'd like for them to aim higher after using him as a stopgap.

Chris Shelton
Better than Broussard or no?

by hubcityraider on Jan 12, 2008 10:56 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

the numbers say yes
and Shelton is at an age where players generally show improvement, while Broussard is at an age that typically begins to show some erosion of skill.
