How arbitration works

It has been so long since the Rangers had an arbitration case (Lee Stevens was the player, for those keeping score at home) that the details of arbitration aren't something that Rangers fans generally hear about.

But in Philadelphia, where the Ryan Howard arbitration case is a big issue, Jim Salisbury talks to some folks who have been involved in arbitration hearings to give us some idea of how they actually work.

I read that the Astros are 5-0
in arbitration hearings this year (Mark Loretta was asking for $5 million or something stupid like that - victory Astros...)

The kicker was that the article said that the 5-0 record ensures that they'll be above 500 for the year.  Does this mean that Astros really have 9 guys going to arbitration????  That's insane...
